Needed....new football coach!!

I'm afraid that LR also left behind at least two years of not so good seasons

The fact that Lincoln took almost his entire defensive staff with him shows he didn't have what it takes for #8. It would have made more sense to start completely over from scratch. Other than Cain, it looks like we will retain every above-average coach we had.

I’ve heard Bedenbough might be leaving as well, nothing solid though.

And with them, many of our best '22 recruits.

That happens with coaching changes. This was a welcome and necessary change. We were never winning a title with Riley. His teams regressed every year and honestly, they weren’t tough enough.

We will overcome the short term setbacks. BV will make this team tougher and better in every way. LR was fools gold. BV knows what it takes to win it all and how to get there. LR has no clue about any of that. BV cares about the OU program and the OU family. Riley only cares about himself.

Amen. Bring the physicality back!

Gabe and Teddy, who are both over the moon about the BV hire (I too supported the hire), both said that Cain is a great recruiter, a terrific coach and a good man. I'm all for BV doing things his way but if keeping a defensive coach or two, especially a quality (by all reports) guy like Cain, would keep more of our recruits in the fold, I think that's worth doing. We are, it appears, going to go through a self-imposed full rebuild, and I am not at all convinced it's necessary. Some seem to be OK with OU getting worse before we get better (even as we move to the SEC), but I'm not. I'm not at all convinced it's necessary. It wasn't when Bob Stoops took over a far worse team than this one, and I don't think it is now.

These guys can’t be so good and dudes still be so bad. I want developers and recruiters. It all appears they are just good recruiters.

I want football coaches.

Gabe and Teddy disagree.

Which is fine but i watch the product on the field. We need better coaches, recruiters.

It'd be like being president of the USA and telling the new guy.. Hey keep the same cabinet members.

its been 24 hours and ou fans are already telling BV they are smarter.

If teddy and Gabe were so good theyd be making $1 mil plus a year instead of 100k doing radio and tv.

I like those guys, gabe is a tade uppty for my taste but that goes back to his HS days.

I thought OU's d-line was tremendous this year.

This isn't rocket science. BV wants his own guys, as do most other new head coaches since the beginning of time. Being a good coach and not being retained by Venables are not mutually exclusive. He's going to be paid millions in one of the most intense pressure cooker programs in all of sports. The guy has been in 8 natties and won 3. I think we might could extend him a tad of a leash on his own coaches' decisions. LOL

For sure. Guys that have been in the program 2-3-4 years shouldn’t be so inconsistent. That’s coaching. That’s the wrong players.

I love Redmond, PW, nik, etc… many will be drafted top 5 rounds.

But let the coach pick his staff.

We hired porter, lost 9 guys. This years team would beat the crap out of last years team. We didn’t lose croots but porter re-recruited them.

I agree to let him pick his own staff. I'm just saying keeping Thibideaux wouldn't upset me.

I’d say maybe we should all pump the brakes a bit on any sweeping conclusions one way or the other, both as far as the football and basketball teams. I think our defense (and offense, for that matter) lacked physicality and consistent effort. Some of that certainly falls on position coaches, but the head coach and defensive coordinator also play a huge part in establishing that culture. If they aren’t demanding in those areas, there is only so much a position coach can do.

As for the basketball team, it seems premature to say this year’s team would “kick the crap” out of last year’s team. Last year’s team was in the top 10 in early February and had picked off a lot of highly ranked teams. This year’s squad is coming off a big win over a solid Florida team, and I’m incredibly excited about our potential. But we also have had a few games where you can see that offense may be a struggle against good teams, and we don’t have anyone who can create like Reaves could.

I’m confident we are going to end up with a great coaching staff, I just wish a few more of the commits hadn’t jumped ship because we had a couple great classes lined up.
