Needed....new football coach!!

guys how long did it take for us to hire moser? Relax, take a deep breath,

They are probably interviewing more than just BV. It's gotta be assistants back ground people to make sure he has nothing that would make him leave his job early or anything like that. It took them 9 days to hire Bob Stoops in 1998 despite having time to prepare and probably knowing within a few days they were hiring Bob Stoops. I don't think that it taking this long is indicative of anything.

They knew they wanted Bob, but Bob wasn't sure he wanted us. Thankfully Iowa botched that.

If Venables wants to be a HC, there wouldn't be any hesitations or other interviews he'd be taking after us.

They are being patient & waiting to finish interviews for coaches playing today. I’d almost guarantee there will be an announcement by Monday at the latest.

if you don't know joe by now, don't know what to tell ya. he has taken at least a week on every major hire outside the family.

Iowa was pretty much hiring Kirk Ferentz anyway and he's still there. Pretty sure they are okay with him.

Remember when he hired Stephenson only for him to basically leave after the press conference. You gotta make sure a coach doesn't do that to you again.

Which means Venables isn't his guy. But could still end up with him if Lanning, Aranda, or whoever his #1 guy says no.

How would Joe C. even know who his guy is? Sure, he probably had a list of coaches in case he ever needed to hire a new football coach, but Lincoln leaving caught everyone by surprise. It's not like we had a losing season and were planning on hiring a new coach or anything. This is too big a hire to go in with tunnel vision. Interview everyone and make the right call. This needs to be a hire with long term vision, as the new guy has to get this program ready for the SEC.

Is there a chance for a splash hire? I mean it is OU football. Or would the splash hire be BV & 2 stud coordinators?

Given our recent basketball hire for the men's team we should have confidence in Castiglione to get the right guy.

Dabo Swinney seems to be the only one that would qualify.

Ferentz is okay. Not sure how anybody in their right mind could compare him to Bob, though.

All Sooners on Fan Nation is saying that Lanning is the new coach at OU.

Correction.....now the same source is retracting their claim that Lanning will be named the new coach.

But if Venables was his guy, an interview doesn't matter. He knows him far better than any interview could ever accomplish. Sure, he may interview Aranda and Lanning and ultimately decide that BV is the best hire, but the fact that this has taken a week shows he had reservations. It didn't take a week to decide on Lincoln, and there were no interviews despite numerous highly qualified candidates. That's all I'm saying.

Apparently Clemson people are saying it's Venables.
