Needed....new football coach!!

I have been incredibly busy all week with no time to check on the search all day. It has been a huge blessing. By the time I get home, it seems like I've missed five different "imminent" coaching hires who are later ruled out.

It amazes me how many people believe all/most of the rumors. I also find it curious how many people are upset that they haven’t announced a hire yet. It’s been four days and is an incredibly important decision that you can’t rush, even though it’d be great to make an announcement and hopefully calm the waters. I trust Joe C to make the right decision at the right time.

IMO, with each passing day Venables is less likely

I agree with this, but he also started out as the heavy favorite, so he's now just a lesser favorite. Though I will say that a Sunday/Monday hire would suggest that we're targeting somebody playing in a CCG (my guess would be Lanning; much lower Fickle or Aranda). But we're not even sure this Sunday/Monday timeline is even real, so it's just assumptions on assumptions on assumptions at this point.

I can't take the flight trackers. That trend needs to die.

One thing you gotta love about Joe C is that he's consistent. We should have known all along he was going to play this close to the vest. He does not conduct public coaching searches (which is thankfully a good thing). Since 2007, he has done three men's basketball coaching hires and none of us knew who was going to be hired until the guy was hired...same with the women's basketball coach this past season.

Mario Christabal is an interesting idea

The Sunday/Monday timeline is real. Bob Stoops said himself on his youtube show. BV is the leader in the clubhouse, Lanning/Fickle have asked to have any serious conversations after their championship game. The wildcard is BV as head coach plus Lanning as defensive coordinator.

Add Jeff Lebby as OC and we would have the best overall coaching staff since Stoops' early years.

Amidst all this discussion comes the news that Turgeon is out at Maryland. I never believed for a second that Joe C considered him last spring. Like then, I have confidence he will pick the right man for the job.

and i don't think porter would leave after 1 year at OU but Maryland is a very very good job ..

I think we have him for a long time. Just a feeling.

He's a midwest guy. In the long run, he might leave for a Kansas or a big-time Big 10 school, but I think he'll be here until he can coach a few seasons with his own players.

If he was going to an ACC school, it would have to be Duke or UNC. Maryland is not a better job than OU right now all things considered.

If Venables was OU's top choice, I just can't see why they would wait to talk to Lanning. I also don't think they're waiting to talk to a coach, but I do think they're waiting to announce. I want Venables on our staff (even if it means 4M a year to be our DC), but each passing day makes me feel Joe C has some sort of hesitation with him.

Joe is doing a full search ..

They are probably interviewing more than just BV. It's gotta be assistants back ground people to make sure he has nothing that would make him leave his job early or anything like that. It took them 9 days to hire Bob Stoops in 1998 despite having time to prepare and probably knowing within a few days they were hiring Bob Stoops. I don't think that it taking this long is indicative of anything.
