New Coach

On the LNC: I regularly attended games during the Tubbs, Sampson, Capel and Kruger tenures. If any of you think the LNC was ever a good venue, and/or is now a decent venue to watch a basketball gym, fine. People can have different opinions of things. However, facts are facts and don't get to have your own facts. From the time the LNC was built to now, we have never had very good attendance at non conference games, save and except for the occasional top flight non-con opponent when we had a good team. However, we have commonly had decent to good attendance during league play -- always. Have as well during Porter's time, here and there.

Plus, our attendance has always been a little better when we had good teams. I would imagine this is true of every team in the country.

Steve is right again, in his statement that the LNC was not ideal for basketball viewing when built. At the time, there was a design team marketing those stadiums as event stadiums that could hold basketball games and also a variety of other types of events where the floor space needed was much wider. We bought one, Michigan bought one and so did Auburn. All about the same time, and all three fan bases made the same complaints about the arena. All three universities had attendance problems. Auburn and Michigan got rid of their gyms and built new gyms made for basketball. Not coincidentally, both schools attendance has increased.

I still go to a few games at the LNC. But, I would go to more games if we had a better and more comfortable gym. But, people could differ on this issue. This being said, I'm not in favor of a university debt financing athletic facilities. So, if we can't get donors to build a new gym. I say keep the one we have whether I like it nor not. A new gym would have been way more important a few years ago. Now, if you have enough NIL, I would imagine you could buy the players you need to win, and win big, if you have to play with no crowds on an asphalt court at the park. So, if we have to chose between a new gym and upping our NIL game, I am for the latter.

Was at the Vandy game and was like at half court towards the top and there was so much stuff, wiring etc. couldn't get a clear view of the scoreboard.
Great seat for $10 but why the obstructed view?

You’re not really complaining about a $10 seat are you?

You also have to look at style. Does the potential coach's style will work in the SEC? I want a coach to have a style that translates to the SEC (the athlete level is different).

I can’t imagine Ou will be head of the pecking order in open coaching jobs this offseason. We aren’t getting him if Indiana wants him for instance.
I agree that OU won't be at the top of available coaching jobs.

I don't see Indiana hiring a coach with one year of D-1 experience. He's not your normal D-II coach, but Indiana still sees themselves as a blueblood.

Joe C. needs to go after him.

JoeC is great at going after flashy hires, its the aftermath he takes a dump on. So he can probably land McCollum if he wants him. Then he will think the problem is solved and go back to golfing, or whatever it is he does during “work hours”.

Iowa will likely be after him. And Iowa will support him, unlike OU.

Why? He won like crazy at DII. If we could get him, you get him. Unfortunately, though, we aren't getting him.
Idk.. i mean pm even has 2 similar seasons (bc of krutwig apparently) in his 21 years of coaching (with 19 of them being failures).. id just like a little more body of work imo

i read iowa might be devries’ dream job. regardless, some big name moves have to happen imo and a huge nil commitment from ou is needed for mccollum to come here. and the domino effect from any big moves could really shrink the coaching pool and open up positions at more attractive schools, like an a&m or baylor. could get wild again this spring.

I”m probably late to the party, but would Kellen be doable if Kelvin retired and came to Norman to mentor him.

Thst move isn’t working well for Kruger.
