New Coach

Who knows what Joe will do. Maybe he will keep Moser to save money for a year or two (regardless of success) and until he starts raking in the SEC money and then commit to the cost of a new staff and the increased NIL necessary to be successful/upper tier SEC. I wonder if he is just giving Football financing priority right now. Or, maybe he loves Porter, who knows. If the funding issues have to do with needing to put most of our money into Football until it is up and competitive in the SEC, I guess if we can't do both at the same time, I would favor taking care of football first.

Sad, but a realistic take of what realistically will likely occur

Here's a visual representation of what that looks like.

I don't think Joe C tries to fund raise for NIL at all for any sport ..

On the LNC: I regularly attended games during the Tubbs, Sampson, Capel and Kruger tenures. If any of you think the LNC was ever a good venue, and/or is now a decent venue to watch a basketball gym, fine. People can have different opinions of things. However, facts are facts and don't get to have your own facts. From the time the LNC was built to now, we have never had very good attendance at non conference games, save and except for the occasional top flight non-con opponent when we had a good team. However, we have commonly had decent to good attendance during league play -- always. Have as well during Porter's time, here and there.

Plus, our attendance has always been a little better when we had good teams. I would imagine this is true of every team in the country.

Steve is right again, in his statement that the LNC was not ideal for basketball viewing when built. At the time, there was a design team marketing those stadiums as event stadiums that could hold basketball games and also a variety of other types of events where the floor space needed was much wider. We bought one, Michigan bought one and so did Auburn. All about the same time, and all three fan bases made the same complaints about the arena. All three universities had attendance problems. Auburn and Michigan got rid of their gyms and built new gyms made for basketball. Not coincidentally, both schools attendance has increased.

I still go to a few games at the LNC. But, I would go to more games if we had a better and more comfortable gym. But, people could differ on this issue. This being said, I'm not in favor of a university debt financing athletic facilities. So, if we can't get donors to build a new gym. I say keep the one we have whether I like it nor not. A new gym would have been way more important a few years ago. Now, if you have enough NIL, I would imagine you could buy the players you need to win, and win big, if you have to play with no crowds on an asphalt court at the park. So, if we have to chose between a new gym and upping our NIL game, I am for the latter.
I'm almost 50. My parents tell me stories of going to Beach Boys concerts at the LNC back in the 70's and 80's. That thing hasn't changed in 50 years!!! Definitely time for an upgrade.

Porter had to make the tourney to keep his job obviously. As a fan I want him to make the tournament. Buyout costs are not issues. Here in this state recently we heard these same rumblings about Mike Boynton and Frank Haith.

As. Fan, if Porter is out, I’d love to have Steve Lutz. That’s a long shot. He’d be a great fit though.

With Texas likely clamoring for Will Wade, keeping Moser is a long-term pain scenario. Donors don't support him with NIL, barely making the tourney should be the floor, not the ceiling. Only going to push OU further in the basement of the SEC in yet another top sport, joining football.

Moser is an Ok coach, but he isn't good enough to win in the SEC.

I'm 58 and I used to go to concerts at Lloyd Noble in the 70's and 80's. Lloyd Noble and the Myriad used to compete for concerts.

Since the Myriad has since morphed from convention center to movie studio to soon to be rubble, it reminds me that OKC will be on its 3rd downtown arena since the early 70's. The old Myriad was built a couple of years before LNC. So OKC will be on its third arena while OU has kept the LNC.

A few scenarios to consider:

A. OU gets bubble-f***ed again and misses the tournament. OU fires Moser. Gates coaches the NIT, Moore/Fears sit and we lose round 1 at home.

B. OU gets a LAST FOUR IN, loses game 1 to another 12-seed. Moser gets fired, told to find a new gig.

C. OU gets a LAST FOUR IN, wins game 1, plays close game 2, Moser is retained.

D. OU gets in as an 11-seed, loses game 1, Moser leaves for an A10 job or is fired. (I lean to him not being retained here)

E. OU gets in as an 11-seed, wins game 1, loses game 2, Moser is retained.

F. OU gets in as an 11-seed, wins game 1, game 2, and makes the Sweet 16+...Moser is retained OR takes another job as demand has increased.

Which scenario is the most likely/realistic? Which scenario, makes you happiest?

B, then A. but Moser is not fired anyway in either..

Most likely is B. Happiest is F

C and 1/2. OU gets a Last Four In, loses in Dayton, Moser is retained. Cheaper to increase NIL than to pay a buyout.

Scenario that makes me happiest is F. I always root for OU to win. This puts us in the Sweet 16. Porter also becomes more marketable and takes another job.

I think most likely scenario is ou is last 4 in, wins play-in, loses 1st round, moser is retained/finds a new job.

B, D, C, E, F, A but F is the dream. Plus Moser had made the tournament twice and made the Sweet Sixteen both times? That has to be his floor haha.

Who knows what happens tonight but it seems like OU would need 4 fluke AQs to be really sweating it out if they lose to UGA.

Sweet Sixteen and Will Wade, I can dream lol.

Nah, it's much closer than that. Just because Lunardi thinks that doesn't make it so. We get beat by 15-20, and teams like OSU, UNC, Texas, etc., win two to three games, then all it takes is maybe one bid thief.

Whatever happens with Porter, I am fed up with having an entirely new roster every year. The college basketball game is losing me. I quit pro basketball many years ago. I quit watching Olympic basketball when it went pro. I have always enjoyed and watched a lot of high school basketball but it is probably a certainty, they will find a way to ruin it as well (sooner or later).
