Next head coach Porter Moser

He looks like a guy that could have his best year if they would trade him. Looks burned out on that organization, which is understandable. Warriors should have traded for him instead of Oubre.

That would have been a match made in heaven.

You are more than welcome to. Some like to discuss topics like this. It doesn't hurt anything. It seems like a healthy discussion.

Many of us see this discussion as toxic. You don't, obviously. To each his own.

it’s just tired, and can be discussed in any of the other 2,568 threads that devolve into this subject. no one’s mind is changing. this thread is about the bright future of our program. let’s look ahead, and not back.

the press conference has me almost as amped as coach moser. looks like he wanted to run a practice now. how could you not want to play for this guy? i need those jordans though, for real.

outside of Stacey King, Sooner players have a terrible knack of landing with terrible teams.

I give the slight edge to Sampson. Loved Sampson at ou. Have rooted for him everywhere unless they play ou. Having said that, it seems like a segment of this board likes kelvin more than the ou hoops program itself. Their negativity about the program sans kelvin is over the top. Lon did a damn good job, 1 of the top 3 coaches all time in this program. Now we just landed one of the hottest coaches on the market that looks to be cut from similar cloth to Kelvin and Lon. More good times ahead, Sooners!

Nobody likes Kelvin more than OU. The reason that Sampson keeps being brought up is that there are a handful of Kruger sympathizers that would praise/defend him regardless of how many late-season collapses he had. They would act like Lon was the best we could hope for despite obvious evidence to the contrary.

I’m not seeing the connection. Why would Sampson get brought up when discussing “Lon’s late season collapses”?

It's a favorite sport among some on this board, second only to ragging on the head coach: Ragging on those who defend the head coach. Coach Kruger is gone, but some continue to rag on him and on those who were in no hurry to see him gone. And yes, some of us continue to defend him.

Trust me, if the criticism stopped, so would my (I can only speak for myself) defense of him. We have a new coach; I'm ready to move on. But as long as what I view as skewed or unreasonable criticism of Coach Kruger continues to be posted here, I'll continue to respond to/counter it. (There you go: A pathway for making me shut up about Coach Kruger, clearly laid out.)

And I will say once again that I used to defend Coach Sampson against the same kind of attacks. His critics were relentlessly vocal back in the day. If you had told me then that 15 or so years later, Kelvin would be the darling of a certain faction of posters on this board, I'm not sure I would have believed it.

There will always be those who eternally see the grass as greener elsewhere. And on this board at least, some of them seem to really resent those who dare to disagree with them (especially if you present facts that counter their stance). Glass half full/glass half empty. It takes all kinds, I guess.

You just summed up why I gave up message boards about five years ago. The coaching search brought me back, but I think it may be a short stay...

This board really might be the least fun of any OU board I know and it’s too bad it’s the only real basketball board. It’s
Cliche but there are people on this board that could screw up a wet dream.

I realize again why I left this board.

Mute folks.

It’s great. Hate to see you go. Some just can’t let things go. Everything has to be a fight.

The standard of our program has dropped considerably over the past 15 years, and many on here have called out Lon for that. His defenders promptly respond that we're not a blue-blood and that he's the best we could possibly hope for. At that point there's not much to do but point to the success his predecessors had. It should kill the argument, but somehow it doesn't.

Yea people need to just let go.... water under the bridge... Ancient history.

We should have nothing to ***** about until December at the earliest.

I just meant fights... Lon vs Sampson. EVERY THREAD!

You say all this, but it's clearly not true. The discussion doesn't have to have anything to do with Lon, but you'll find a way to make comments about him. For example, in one thread there was a discussion citing Moser's Final Four appearance at Loyola as evidence of his ability to coach. It had nothing to do with Lon, but you found a way to make the conversation about Kruger not getting enough appreciation for his Final Four run.

If you want the discussion to stop, you're more than welcome to do your part.

It seems that way, doesn’t it :-(. I’ll talk with Boulder and Ada to see what we can do to curb that. A thread like this which the topic is the next head basketball coach will naturally bring out the subject of past head coaches...but I agree there is no reason to have to suffer through this in thread after thread.

Also, it’s sad that we have lost a lot of good posters over the past couple of years. SoonerTraveler is a great example. I’d hate to lose the IndySooner and Romulus posters of the world as well. Again, we’ll try to come up with something to keep all the good posters around. Feel free to send me a PM for any suggestions.

I will say I do not mind those conversations because Kelvin is probably my favorite coach of all time. I hate to start new thread every time we offer a kid. but to keep it from not appearing I almost have to.
