He was the third leading scorer on the team, half a point behind Tanner. His shooting percentage was 10 points better than Sherfield--even given the different positions they played, that's notable. If he had opted to return, he'd be our returning scorer.
But let's compare Soares and Hill: Hill outscored Soares by 2.5 points per game, outshot him from the field (50-43) and from deep (29-27). He got to the line more often than Soares and averaged two more rebounds.
Both Hill and Soares scored in single digits in 18 games. Soares scored 5 or fewer points 14 times (he went scoreless twice). Hill scored five or fewer points 8 times, with just one scoreless outing.
Hill was honorable mention all-conference in the toughest conference in the country; Soares was unmentioned in the Pac 12 all-conference honors.
