Next Portal Commit?

And we need shooters. Another reason I don't really understand how this is going to work. We'll see who else Moser can add.

Yeah, right now as the teams positioned I would pick them dead last in the Conference. Unless Oweh learns how to shoot over the offseason.

That is a good point as well. If Oweh is starting, he isn't a great shooter. Hugley isn't going to shoot it or be a threat from outside. If you start a 3rd guy that isn't a threat, we have the same problems on offense that we had last season.

That is why I always laugh when people JUST look at recruiting/Portal rankings or previous year stats when evaluating some of these guys. FIT matters. Probably even more so on a team with a HC that is "system" oriented.

Eh. I think if you have a ton of damn good players, you'll find a way to fit them into whatever system you have and usually it works. Sadly for OU that's few and far between lately.

Well yeah. Magic Johnson was an average shooter but he was so great at everything else that it didn't matter. Someone else mentioned that UConn won the natty with mostly average shooters. It can be done, but you must have plus athletes that all fit well together. If you don't have that then you better have guys that can spread the floor. Last year during conference play our opponents face-guarded Sherfield and that pretty much rendered our offense useless

UCONN didn't win a championship with average shooters. That was a cherry picked stat. Some of those guys with low FG% were VERY good 3 point shooters. That poster was also comparing guys that shot under 50% to a guy (Soares) that shot under 40%. Wasn't a very good post.

Of course, being elite or having elite talent around you, you can get away with certain worts. OU does not have anywhere close to the kind of talent to suggest we can be okay with giant holes in our starting lineup.

Good points. The bottom line is that we need guys that can shoot the ball.

I don't see how anybody can consider that a good thing as a starting lineup.

I don't mind going that small for stretches of games, but with all of our rebounding and inside problems, essentially going to a 4 guard lineup (Cooper and Soares are neither prototypical stretch 4's) probably isn't going to solve them.

I think it can be a good thing. But you need a big time center that can block shots, get a ton of rebounds, and dominate the paint. Hughley isn’t that, you’ll need a true 4 to go with him.

A little behind the scenes look from
Frank Martin in the article:

Martin says coaches used to know who would stay and who would leave as the season unfolds. Coaches often agreed to part ways with unhappy players at the end of the year, so they had an idea of what the team would look like next season heading into March. “Now we got no idea because no one tells us because there’s all kinds of stuff going on behind closed doors.”

Martin continued, “and like I say, even the guys that are happy and successful transfer right now. It has nothing to do with anything other than they’re being convinced by other people that there’s a better deal out there. And that is so disappointing, because as adults, we should know better, that there’s usually not a better deal out there.”

Report of usc all freshmen teamer tre white

Tre White would be a great pickup and could replace Hill at the 4 in a small ball lineup. Very strong rebounder.
