Next year's starting line up

I like Buford. I have nothing against him.
But if he demands more minutes than Lattin, McNeece, and Freeman, the odds are we aren't ready for the Kansas's, Villanova's and North Carolna's of the world.

6'7" post players who are ok but don't pose a threat offensively, defensively, or on the boards aren't the recipe for beating elite teams ....

No but I dont believe he has the skill set to beat out Lattin, McNeece, or Freeman. They all have much higher ceilings than him.

So you don't think he'll be in the top 10?

Then I'll be glad to tell you your depth chart guesstimate is incorrect.

Woodard
James
Lattin
and the rest is wide open. Buford, Doolittle, McNease Freeman and AK all have a great shot at playing the other post position. Odomes is also a candidate at the 4.
The other wing is McGusty, Odomes and then Grandstaff. Don't rule out Dante getting some time here either.

I don't like his game at all, as it is.

He'll be in the rotation. Guaranteed.

So you think a 6'7" guy with below average offense, defense, and rebounding is likely to beat out a 6'10 European with 3 pt range, A 6'10 Soph with a mean jump hook, and a 6'9" shot blocker who started in 2015.

Maybe I'm "wrong" but unless Buford DRASTICALLY improves his offense, defense, or rebounding, he will sit behind these three 4/5 players. If not we are t ready to win a B12 Championship.

Doolittle is a similar player to Buford.

European? Ancestry, I guess.

Doolittle is physical and rebounding is his MO. He will take some time to adjust to the college game, but watch out for him, IMO.

1. Woodard/Strong

2. Grandstaff/McGusty

3. James/Odomes

4. Buford/Freeman/Doolittle

5. Lattin/Manyang/McNeace

I could see possible scenarios where Lattin could move to the 4, Odomes to the 4, and Buford/Odomes/Doolittle used as combo forwards (3/4) like A&M used Jones & House.

We will need Doolittles REB. Buford plays a ton.

I think we surprise next season. I fully expect top half of the Big 12 and a NCAA invite. Offseason player development is a strength of this staff and, despite losing Henson and Hill, I don't see that changing. I'm thinking something along the lines of 2012-13 at worst or 2014-15 at best. 20-23 win range.

obviously we can't know what the incoming class can do...

IF Freeman, a 6'10 3 pt shooter does well we could get 23/24 wins. 10-8 in conf...

I'd say WV and KU are the ones that will be preseason teams...

ksu was young this yr, ut has come talented kids coming back, osu with the 2 guards...should be a good season.

not sure what bu/isu have coming or going...

I'd take KSU over us for sure. They lose Edwards, who was very solid. But those 3 freshman (Wade, Brown, Stokes) are going to be players and Iwundu is back.

The bottom line is that we will have 12 guys that can play, which is a good place to be in. Our bench/depth is going to be MUCH improved. Our starters won't be as good, but we'll have more options off the bench.

Walker, for instance, might have been our 6th man this year (or 7th the last few games), but he would be our 6th guard next year in my mind if he were still around.

Lose Spangler and add Doolittle and Freeman means we will have more versatility in the front court.

There will be growing pains, but I think we'll have the kind of bench that can sustain those bumps in the road. I also think McGusty, Grandstaff, James, Odomes, Strong, and Woodard will stand up to any big 12 backcourt.

A very underrated aspect of next season's team. It's a guard's game and, in time, I don't think we'll be found lacking...

Just wait and see. It is how it works..

I'm not saying he won't start.
He might.
But he won't start because he had a high rating on Rivals.

Cam Clark was rated higher than McGusty by recruiting services, and Kruger didn't start him his junior year. McGusty is not a lock to come in and start as a freshman.
