Nick Thompson a Sooner

If OU signs Josh Watkins I will feel pretty good about next year...

PG: Josh Watkins/TJ Taylor
SG: Cade Davis/Stephen Pledger
SF: Cameron Clark/Stephen Pledger/TJ Taylor
PF: CJ Washington/Barry Honorore
C: Andrew Fitzgerald/Nick Thompson

Nick Thompson is not a center....he is a sf/pf in my opinion...I cant see him playing the center at all

Neither is Fitz, and OU doesnt really have a "center" position. They just have some post players.

Welcome Mr. Thompson, i cant wait to see you play and figure out what type of player you will be for OU...

Next year is going to be a lot of fun in the reguard that we dont really know what any of these guys can do (fun for me because i like evaluating talent)...so many new faces and all will have an immense amount of pressure to produce early...I hope they are ready to work and take a lot of weight on their shoulders...

True centers are a rare commodity. It would be nice to sign one. But very few teams have a true center on their roster.

I'd honestly like one more post but that may be wishful thinking at this point. I'd also like a scoring guard but after losing Poland I think we sign a point and that's likely it.

Yep, the great thing about college is the ability to play without a true center and still be successful...look at OSU the last couple of years...

OU can overcome its lack of size but youth and continuity is what i'm more concerned with at this point...that and i have no idea what we are going to get out of the newcomers, there are a lot of question marks...

Highlights are great when you are playing in the Juco ranks and in high school but they dont mean squat when the season starts next year....

Statements like we are a pg away from the tournament are crazy at this point. My expectations for next season are 6 conference wins, an overall record above .500, and steady improvement. If we see that I will be satisfied.

Is there really someone that believes this?

Unless that PG is a Mookie Blaylock hiding somewhere at a Juco in Alaska yet to be found i'm pretty sure all the impact PG's are gone...

Somebody said it earlier in the thread. If we get Watkins, Newell or Lloyd I would be pleased, but I don't expect any of those guys to be superlative players. If we strike out on those three I have no clue who is left at this point.

We don't need a playmaking PG we just need enough of a PG that can play at all. Right now outside of TJ Taylor we have TJ Franklin.

I agree, but I think OU just needs someone to run the team, score a little and play defense. I think this team will already be better defensively. TMG and Gallon were abused defensively, Fitz and Pledger will be improved just w/experience and a whole year of conditioning, TJ is young but prides himslef on defense. With just a little D, OU would've beaten Baylor at home, TT (2x), KSU, and Houston. That's 5 wins and OU's 18-13 and in the NIT. The complete lack of defense at the point just killed OU last year. TMG got beaten so bad that the help didn't even have a chance to get there even when the actually knew when and where to help.

I wonder if recruits have been holding back on us waiting to see if anyone else signs. The PG prospects might not want to go to a team with almost no one to pass to. I know it is kind of a chicken and egg thing but now that we have some people will to throw in with the 3 we had coming in maybe that will make it eaiser for us to get the others in. I say Welcome Aboard to Mr. Thompson and thanks.

I am becoming more optimistic that we will make it to .500 next year. Maui still looks rough though.

I've heard OU is trying to find a substitute for Maui. OU went one year under Kelvin when OSU backed out and asked if OU wanted to play there. Hopefully that happens and OU gets a couple gimmes in place.

I think that's a fair assessment and probably true. Be interesting to see how we close out this class.

This is great news. We needed post players and have got some. Now we need a pg.

I havent researched as much about Thompson as i have about other guys. What are his strengths?
