I don't think we should increase $ for porter 20% moser, personally.. I think it could demoralize the BMDs further if/when we miss the tourney anyway.. might be better off hoarding and giving a larger than normal pot to a good coach. Idk

We shouldn't, but the way I took Denny's words and what he said on KREF, increasing NIL is for the program not for Porter. He's establishing a new baseline and expectation for how the program should be funded whether its for Porter or for the next guy after next season.

The one point I loved was he wanted ANYONE to explain how spending dead money (porter buyout money) would be better than putting that same money into NIL for the team. No one can argue that one, unless they simply don’t like Porter

And no depth beyond the starting 5. Which definitely cost us mid season. The starting 5 was very good by February.

Partially true. But he was still acting like we had depth in January. And who could fully blame him based on what he had seen against the level of our non-conference competition. Once he shortened his rotation we got better. I will give you that a healthier Dayton played a role in that. But Jones, Dayton, and Kiril all gave quality minutes when they didn’t have to go longer than desired. We won a lot of games in past years with a bench rotation worse than that.

Almost seems like NIL = success? Weird.

It is actually very easy to argue that.
You hire a good coach you will make up the buyout pretty quickly.
Ticket sales aren't going to come back under Moser.

Have to see NIL list to answer that. If Georgia was much higher than us on NIL it actually proves that coaching doesn’t matter as much. Which is what Switzer stated out loud a long time ago.

Yeah, I don't know why anybody would do a victory lap with that data. Seems like our record is comparable to the money we spend.

Despite what another post around here says, it's not that easy.

Operations - This comes from an operating fund. This is funded by all things OU athletics. Things paid out of this would be Moser's salary and regular operating expenses.

Internal Revenue Sharing - This is a calculation. It's a set amount each year. OU determines how to allocate that amongst the sports they want to allocate it to. I'm guessing that allocation won't change much, year over year. It's not that much though. If it's what, $20-something million for the entire athletic department, and you figure football gets a big chunk, this is a small number.

Outside NIL - No University funds are used for this. Can't be. This is the stuff that goes thru the Clearinghouse. This is the part that NOBODY has good numbers on, because no school in their right mind is going to share those numbers. This is where the majority of the NIL is coming from, and thus OU does not really control other than potentially telling donors they need more money in those funds to be able to strike deals with players. But OU cannot fund it directly.

So no, the Porter buy-out money and the true outside NIL money are not one in the same.

Some of you all should take some accounting/finance classes. It's not an overly difficult topic, and some of you are missing the basics as it relates to accounting at NFP/Governmental organizations, and being able to read the financial statements that are available to everybody.

Guys, settle down. No one is in here saying Moser is an amazing coach. But if we have to choose between a buyout or more NIL money Ill take NIL money for this year. Why change coaches and still not spend enough on the team?
