Didn't think he would get too much playing time after the time off, but it would be if he could have gone for the experience anf environment

Best wishes for him

I'm not sure he'd be in a good head space to be prepared yet. Best wishes to AK!

They never gave a reason but he left his juco team for a month last season, too. He hasn't practiced with the team for over 2 weeks, so there was no chance for him getting playing time in the Final Four.

One of the articles about his brother mentioned that he had attempted suicide in December 2014. That's right around the time AK was gone from his juco team, so it wouldn't surprise me if that were the reason.

I feel for the kid. He needs to be with his family. For some, playing would be a way to get a way and honor your fallen brother. For others, there is no way they could play with focus.

There's no right and no wrong way to handle it. Prayers with his family

At some point, do you start to worry about AK's ability to be eligible for this semester?

I'm sure he is able to get his school work done online. He has only missed like 3 days the rest of the team hasn't.

I wish AK could have made it to Houston, and not necessarily so he could play, but just for the experience. I don't pretend to know what's going on with him, but I feel like the joy and camaraderie of the Final Four might have been a good thing.

As for his eligibility, I know a lot of schools make bereavement accommodations for students. I don't know OU's policy, but I assume AK's situation would absolutely qualify if there is one.

I'm more worried about him transferring. He may want to be closer to family now. Of course, I'm not sure what his transfer options would be at this point, given his eligibility.

I'm kind of not expecting him to rejoin the team. I hope he is back, and wish him the best whatever he does.

surely the NCAA that cares so much for the players has some type of exception for a situation like this.

Oh wait, the NCAA doesn't care about anything other than some fat old men being overly compensated due to the efforts of kids, coaches and their members.

I'm a tad surprised, but as others have said, this is a very individual and personal thing to endure and everyone is different. I would have thought the distraction and return to "normalcy" surrounded by his teammates would be a positive thing, especially now that I assume all services, etc. are completed. That said, certainly wish the best for him and hope that things work out for him regardless of it's in Norman or somewhere else.

Well, I'm sure there won't be much "normal" about this week at all.

If he did come back, theres TONS and TONS of media opportunities and open locker rooms, AK would be subjected to all kinds of questions about his brother and how he's doing and things like that.

That may not be something he needs right now, I certainly wouldn't want to have to go through that.

I think he is gone as well!! Better find out soon and decide what to do with the scholarship..

:facepalm

As far as I'm concerned this thinking is ridiculous and AK can take as long as he wants in dealing with his situation.

You make a good point, WS, one I never really considered. I can also see the point SKINS made. In times of grief, the support of friends can be important too.

Everyone is different. I can't even imagine what this young man has been going through the past week or so. I can only hope and pray he finds a way to cope, and that the decision he makes will be the right one for him personally. If it's coming back to OU, I will be in his corner.

Where does this come from? There is no basis for this comment. Manyang did a solid job this season. I never heard of any trouble. There is every reason to believe he will be back. The players sure seem to care for him.

I like AK!!! His situation is tough and horrible.. I meant by the end of the school year he needs to make a decision. I would think the coaches need/want to know soon. Doesn't mean we don't care about the guy, I hope he does come back actually.

That's awful. The guy is going through a personal tragedy and all you can do is write him off, circling like a vulture over his scholarship.
