I recommend that someone (not me) perform a nut check before we take the floor, we are soft. If our opponent gets in our face and plays tough defense 80% of our team disappears. I apologize for this thread in advance.

I've said it a few times this year. I'd like to see Capel take a page out of Eddie Sutton's (vomit) book and put some pads on these guys in practice until they are committed to toughness and rebounding.

Actually a great idea...maybe let some linebackers come bully them a little.

That's actually a great idea. Clark and Neal are as soft as any frosh I've seen in a long time. We need some physical players like Najera, Renzi, and a few others.

Hard to believe at one time we were the most physical team in the conference. Turgeon's team looks a lot like what our team used to look like, and when you don't get the highly rated prospects, you have to play physical to ugly the game up a bit.

This is an honest question and it is not meant to be a slam at Capel or Fitz but do you think that if Sampson were coaching this team that Fitz would have started anywhere close to 100% of our games? I truly feel that Sampson would have sacrificed Fitz' offense for CJ's defense and rebounding until Fitz became a major window cleaner. Am I off base?

For the record, next to Cade, Fitz is my favorite player on the team.

No, you are right. Washington would be logging major minutes and leading us in rebounds by a long shot.

I, too, like Fitz a lot after Cade.

Dare I say it? The bubble drill?

It did seem that the OU team did fight for rebounds in the 1st half. But it could be that the A&M players just did not respect our guys, and basically goofed off in the 1st half. It sure looked different in the 2nd half.

I don't think we can compare Capel to Kelvin on defense. He just doesn't coach defense as well. I just wish we had some sort of offensive system to balance it.

With all due respect, I'm not sure there are too many coaches around these days who coach defense as well as KS.

Maybe, but A&M plays hard defense. Probably doesn't have a bunch of great talent. Just a bunch of average to above average talent. Texas has great talent and plays great defense. Kansas plays solid defense, Missouri has great defense in that system. It's not like nobody coaches defense.

But that still doesn't excuse the lack of an offense.

Are you implying Jeff does not use the bubble drill in practice? 47 points?

I have a better idea. Let Schmitty have free rein on them. That will teach them toughness!!!!!

We don't need to get tougher or any of that nonsense, we need to get more good players.

We can't rebound because we have one starter over 6'6, and he can barely jump over a quarter. All this jazz about toughness and "want to" are great, but only when you have equal, or at least almost equal athleticism and ability.

I actually have very little issue with our effort, preparedness and game planning this season. I give Capel a B+ for that.

However, he gets a D for the talent he has put together. Just when I almost feel sorry for him I remember he put this team together.

And this is coming from someone who supports Jeff and believes he should be back next year.

I have no issue with the effort this team gives, I truly believe the kids are trying, but I also think the team is soft. Height doesn't rebound, toughness does. That's why Cade leads the team in rebounding, that's why K Love is doing what he is doing, that's why M Malone was who he was, and that's why Rodman was such a great rebounder. Toughness is a real quality that matters, in fact it matters more than height.

As for talent, yes we need more good players.

Of course it matters. But only when you had a fighting chance to begin with.

Could this team be tougher? Probably. Would it make a difference in the win-loss column? Hell no.

We need better players. Period. Then we can talk about intangibles.

I have trouble with next year because I don't see a big upgrade in talent. We bring in 2 or 3 players, maybe 4 and need all of them to be impact guys.
