Nice article on two of the many players on this team who are good at driving and slashing. That is not only a unique skill, it can be a key ingredient in winning close games, providing the officials are consistent in calling fouls this season.
The announcers in the Washburn game talked about the "emphasis" this season on defenders using arm bars and putting their hands on an offensive player who is attempting to drive the lane to gain an advantage. That is nothing new. It was a major part of the so-called "rules changes" two years ago. Most officials made those calls in the early part of that season, but went right back to the way it was called (or more correctly, not called), before the changes in the rules.
If indeed this "new emphasis" is called the way it is supposed to be this season, players like Odomes, James, Cousins, Hield, Walker and Woodard will be very important to any success we have. They will also score a lot of points from the free throw line.
