I actually thought Phipps could've been a great help one day. However, I am relieved to know it's not Harmon or Vic.

I generally dislike the new trend of transfers the minute a kid doesn’t get exactly what he wants from the school he chose, but for Phipps this makes perfect sense. Bottom line, if he’s looking for legit playing time then Power 5 hoops probably isn’t for him. If he was content being part of a bigger-time program and getting spotty minutes over his four years, then great. But his major skill is no longer a unique one— LOTS of kids can rain from deep. If his goal is to spend the next 3 years playing in a lot of college basketball games, then he needed to transfer. Wish him the best. For our program it’s a non-issue and doesn’t change the outlook at all.

after January Phipps did not get many minutes, granted OU was playing in a lot of tight games but not getting on the court and seeing what's coming back and what's coming in i cannot blame a kid who wants to play and contribute more and if they can do that at another school than I wish him the best.

At an absolute minimum we need Harmon, Harkless, and Gibson back on the team next year. Those three would likely all start and if Harmon can take the next step, I think that’s a pretty nice three-man backcourt, especially because Harkless can play “bigger” at the 3. I would rather not lose Hill or Victor, but as long as it isn’t Harmon, Harkless, or Gibson, I think any other movement could be reasonably replaced. I would also think a return for Williams is possible— he’s not the kind of player that will be able to rake in $$ overseas or anything.

He could find a decent paying overseas gig tomorrow.

I agree with you. I think Trey was a casualty of a roster that overflowed with guards who were bigger, stronger, more mature physically or more skilled.

He got some decent minutes off of the bench early on, and for a short time he seemed to be able to hold his own on defense and take advantage of his ability to make spot up perimeter shots. But, when we got to the toughest part of our conference schedule and he struggled to make those shots, his minutes declined appreciably as the season progressed.

I hate to see him leave, because I believe there is always a place for a great young man who can shoot threes.

My guess is AG is going to announce shortly. We really need Iwuakor to stick around. Next year could be his year IMO.
