CU got a win in Lincoln tonight, and has a finale against Texas Tech (who is HORRIBLE on the road) to get that 6th conference win.

Man, lost to #1 Kansas in OT without Burks, lost to ISU in Ames on a buzzer beater (without Burks), lost to Kansas State in a really tight game, and lost another really tight game at A&M (tied with 59 seconds)...

They were a few bounces away from a much better conference season. Hopefully they can wrap up that 6th win!

Whether or not they get the 6th win, you were definitely right about them being considerably better.

On the other hand, Mizzou continues to not impress me.

If things fall as I think they will they will finish 8th in the league. That is pretty amazing. And if we can somehow manage to beat A&M we could very likely have a rematch with them in the 1st round of the big 12 tourney.

why would Missouri not impress you? Preseason many had them 8th or 9th and were predicting 6 wins for them in conference. Now they are 10-5. And I give them a decent shot of upsetting Kansas on Saturday to finish 11-5. Pretty impressive to me considering the strength of the conference and the losses of Carroll, Lyons and Lawrence.

Preseason coaches poll (current big12 rank)

1. Kansas (1)
2. Texas (6)
3. Oklahoma (10)
4. Kansas State (2)
5. A&M (5)
6. OSU (6)
7. Missouri (4)
8. Iowa State (11)
9. Texas Tech (9)
10. Baylor (3)
11. Nebraska (12)
12. Colorado (8)

The future looks brighter for Colorado. Not so much for Texas Tech, Iowa State and Nebraska.

I am going to require a separate Scott Drew appreciation thread from Big Time however after the Bears blew through the 9 win bogey tonight.

CU returns everyone but their 6th man, Dwight Thorne, for next season. They also get their starting point guard back and they are going to sign one or two juco rebounders to help them defend and rebound next season.

PG: Shannon Sharpe (6'1'' 200)- Was projected to be CU's starting point guard this year, but had to redshirt this year with injury. Averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game in high school. Went to prep school to get more recruiting interest. 20 years old, not a typical freshman.

SG: Cory Higgins (6'5'' 190)- Averaging nearly 19 a game. Perhaps the most efficient guard in the conference. Will be on a pre-season all conference list next year and a post-season all conference list this year.

SF: Alec Burks (6'6'' 195)- Possible Big 12 freshman of the year. Averaging 17 points and 5 rebounds per game as a true freshman. Has double figures in every full game played this year, which is tops among freshman nationally. Projected lottery pick in the 2011 NBA draft.

PF: Marcus Relphorde (6'7'' 225)- Possible Big 12 all newcomer team in 2010. Averaging 11 points and 4 rebounds per game in first year out of junior college. Point-forward player who is a matchup problem for most teams.

C: Austin Dufault (6'8'' 230)- Averages 6 points and 3 rebounds per game. 38% 3pt shooter.

The future looks brighter for Colorado. Not so much for Texas Tech, Iowa State and Nebraska.

Pat Knight and Doc Sadler better win next year.... Doc has 4 new starters and freshman all over the place this year, but they have some promising young guys and could be improved next year. Tech will have Roberson and Singletary as seniors so Knight better win more next season or he will be toast.

I am just amazed to see abd admit that tech isn't very good in this thread. ;)

By the way, what will BT have to do if you win?

He has to show up to an OU game wearing all Kansas Jayhawk garb!

Actually, it was just a friendly avatar bet. He will have to use a KU avatar for a month or something.

:ez-laugh: That will kill BT.

thorne's a good player. we'll see on sharp. not many freshmen pgs come in and play better than big12 average.

and they really need a big that can defend and rebound. are they in on anyone besides the csi guy?

They are in on Antione Lundy (6'8'' 235)... Averages 18 points and 13 rebounds per game for Neosho County CC in Kansas. I know they are holding out for juco players (which is probably the Steve Mcclain influence), so they are after a few but I know of this guy.

Tomlinson has been starting for two years so there won't be too much pressure on Sharpe. He will probably be a better athlete than any other point guard in the Big 12 next year, and he will be turning 21 so he isnt a 17 or 18 year old kid.

Here is a blurb from Bzdelik on him....

As odd as this might sound, almost from moment of Sharpe's arrival in Boulder last summer, Bzdelik had found his team leader.

"And I say that based on his personality and how others engage in a positive way to him," Bzdelik said. "No. 2, his defensive pressure and presence was really going to be the heart and soul of our defense, because your defense starts with your ability to control the other team's point guard - and we haven't been able to do that."

Granted, the Buffs are a very young team (one senior), but I asked Bzdelik how rare he found it for a freshman to show up and assert himself as Sharpe did.

"Yes (it's rare), but he's a rare young man in terms of the positive intangibles combined with his athleticism and the skill he brings," Bzdelik said.

I didn't read it all, but is this a thread about Colorado possibly going 6-10 in conference?

thanks, abd.

sharpe is an impressive athlete, no doubt about that.

Sharpe looks like an impressive athlete from the video I saw on him preseason. Baylor has a very athletic PG coming in as well- Stargell Love. Should be some entertaining battles between those two in future years:

DFW,

That was my first time seeing Stargell... WOW! That kid is a player and a great athlete. He and Sharpe will be a great battle next year in terms of pure athletic ability.

That kid looks pretty damn good though, he should be better than Sharpe. The future at Baylor is certainly very bright.

I didn't read it all, but is this a thread about Colorado possibly going 6-10 in conference?

It is about the following things,

1.) Me possibly winning the Colorado bet with bigtime.
2.) How Colorado returns Higgins, Burks, Relphorde, and gets their starting point guard back and will be significantly better again next year.
3.) About this kid Baylor has coming in that looks big time.

I see it evolving into a discussion about the Big 12 as a whole next year... Feel free to chime in if you have anything to add.

Colorado might be the worst team we played all year. I don't care if they beat us. We suck too.

Yep, there should be some legendary battles between Baylor's 3 star recruit and Colorado's 1 star recruit!! :)
