OSU at OU

Those who didn't attend the game may not appreciate what happened with the officiating from the 1st half to the 2nd. Near the end of the first half, SC finally laid it on the line with Roy Gulbean. It was a very lengthy and heated "discussion". His body language along with his calls always make it appear he picks favorites in games and helps particular coaches. I got the impression SC had all she could take. After she had a VERY serious "discussion" with him he got better for a while.

Then later in the game his biases got back in control of his performance.

After Ana's 3 pointer to end the 3rd quarter, it seemed very obvious he did not want to count it. With all the noise it is hard to hear clearly, but he appeared quite angry about what the other two officials wanted to do. It sounded like he was complaining that, yes, it appeared she got it off with 0.2 seconds to spare, but since it was so close, it still was not fair to count it. Strange.

Here is the truth. A number of things are damaging attendance at Big-12 women's games. One obvious one is that the big-12 conference officials are destroying attendance. No one wants to watch games that are clearly officiated differently at the two ends of the courts. That is not sportsmanlike or real competition.

+1

Great observations!

Manning did travel. However, I doubt the call would havr been made in Waco against Baylor. There is no such thing as Big 12 officials. You will see the ones that call in Norman officiating in tne SEC, ACC, Pac 12 and other conferences.

I have not seen a replay, but the radio folks after the game said she took part of an extra step.

However, immediately before, on the other end, we got the ball and Jensen jumped into Maddie who had the ball, and knocked her 2 or 3 feet sideways. With Roy G looking straight at them. He definitely saw it since no one else was within 10 feet. However no call. We should have been shooting free throws with just a few seconds left instead of having to find another way to score.

Roy G is a serious problem as an official.

And it is not just this game. The conference has a problem. Think about our recent game with BU. Baylor knocked Ana in the head hard enough to cause a concussion, but according to the Big-12 there was no foul.

The conference has an obligation to protect player's health.

If I hadn’t seen several uncalled traveling violations, I would be ok with the last call.

the male ref appeared to be biased. The two women looked inept. The foul on Vivi mentioned above was absurd. She standing still outside the arc, arms straight up and Jensen falls into her. Jensen used her elbow to get around Vivi several times. Her elbow is clearly away from her body.

Shaina reminds me a lot of Danielle her freshman year. After missing some of her first few layups, she got more composed when she got to the bucket playing more in control and scoring. As I recall, DRob pressed a bit as a freshman too.

What in the heck does baylor have to do with OU/OSU game? Seems like baylor or KM has really gotten to some of you...let it go

Women's officiating is and has been awful but it seems to be getting worse. Those three yesterday were perhaps the worst I have seen in person, that covers 15 years of season tickets..
OSU had 1 team foul in the first half? No way.
But yes it was a travel.

I have seen that situation called both ways. Now, what should be called if while you are traveling Coleman happens to have her hands on your shoulders the entire time? I might give you the traveling if you will give me the foul.

If you are going to be that specific on travel, I want two layups made by Jensen late in the game to be called traveling. She stopped, pivoted, and put the ball up. But, she moved the free foot more than once, dragging the pivot foot as much as about six to eight inches. That is just as much traveling, with no call. If you are going to call to the letter of the law, do it on both ends.

Coleman zero fouls? Coleman would foul out of a checkers game.

Problem with talking about what should have been or not have been called is a total waste of time. The refs called it the way they and only them saw it. Could the game been called any better ..sure but fouls were called and not called on both teams

Definitely cannot dispute the concept of calling it the same of both ends. But from my perspective you could have easily called traveling on both Jensen and Vivi mulitiple times if you went by the letter of the law. Unfortunately the fact is the game is called today where the offensive center can body push the defender off of their position and drag their pivot foot and virtually never have it called against them so the fans can having the higher scoring games they prefer.

If that is the game that the adminstrators and TV producers want then I say the administration needs to change the rules to comply with the game they want played and then demand the refs call the game to the letter of the law. Then hold the refs accountable to do so. Don't depend on the refs to arbitrarily call the game on a subjective basis to get the desired type of game wanted.

For certain you would have games called more consistently the same from game to game and from the start of the game to the end of the game. This would improve the level of play as the players would now know much better how the game was going to be called instead of having to learn that on the fly.

Let it go? That is not going to happen. Too many have a terminal case of Mulkey syndrome.

You are right most of the refs that call games in the Big 12 have a bad case of screw OU mentality. :facepalm If I wanted to analyze all the games OU plays over a season I could show you dozens of times the refs make an equally bad call to OU's benefit. It is called the human error factor. It happens in all games and it generally balances out to a fairly called game in the end. And yes the refs did not screw OU in Stoolwater. Poorly called game from a consistency basis start to finish? Yes?

Don't like how the games are called. Get the training, the experience and get the job and show us how it is done. Easy to evaluate refs sitting in the stands or on your buttocks in front of a TV. The game is such that there will be occasions a call goes against you or goes your way and rarily the results are a W or a L. That is the game of basketball and I want the human element to remain a part of the game. Gives to many people the opportunity to justify the shortcomings on the court being the fault of others rather than the players or the coaches. And Sherri and troops need all the justifications they can get.

Hardest sport in the world to referee. Bang bang plays every trip down the court. Fans right on top of you. I did it in my younger days. Would never even think about doing it at this level

One of the reasons the attendance is down in the big 12 could be that the basketball play overall isn't very good..couple of good teams and bunch of avg at best teams.

I sit pretty close to the visitors goal, and walks and missed calls on walks were pretty even down there. Refs missed some on both teams, and they also missed fouls on both teams. They only thing that wasn't break even may have been that Jenson is a center who knows how to use here arms and body to get better position, both before and after getting the ball, and she got away with a lot of stuff-but that is pretty standard for center play.
