I think any difference at this point is minimal. Both have different strengths/weaknesses.
Minimal? Come on.
OSU has double the number of conference victories and won comfortably the first time the two teams played.
I'm not saying OSU is a good team, because we're not. I'm just saying we're clearly better than OU at this point.
My point here is pretty much only that it's ridiculous for an OSU fan to crow about anything at this point. Ford's been at OSU for four years, and he's won fewer games each consecutive season. OU just dealt with two of its worst seasons in modern history and has a new coach, and as bad as things still are, they're better than they were. If either of the two teams is in position to boast about the future, I'd give that edge to OU.
Now you're talking in circles.
First off, nobody is "crowing" about anything. I was simply responding to the OP's assertion that OU is "heading in the right direction." There's no evidence right now that suggests that. In fact, it would appear that OU's general level of play has declined as the season has wore on.
In terms of the future, we'll see.
If I were comparing two young and thin teams and thinking about "the future", I think I would probably side with the team that has shown it can actually beat a few good teams.
Denver, I usually like reading your stuff as it seems to be thoughtful. Your forgot to let your synapses communicate on this one - OSU just 4 days ago were down 35 at Missouri and a week ago were down 35 at Kansas. This was before both retired their main guys for the night to let subs in . Is this the "Much Better" you are speaking of? They got KILLED at both places, slaughtered, and today beat a BAD non-Barnes like Texas squad. Hmmmmmm. and for the OSU poster who was talking about the 3 freshman and one sophmore on their team he obviously forgot that at one point today Texas had ALL 5 PLAYERS ON THE FLOOR WERE FRESHMAN, hmmmm.
Yeah - we lost big on the road to top 10 teams. We're not a good team. Nobody disputes that.
But we have at least beat a few good teams at home, which is more than OU can say. And we didn't lose to the worst team in the history of the Big 12 conference. So we do have that going for us.
Ford inherited a talented team and did little to build from that, signing zero quality recruits in his first two years.
Well he did go to the Tournament in his first two years, so he has that going for him.
And I agree that depth problem is his fault. His first recruiting class was without question a total bust.
That's the root cause for the mediocre play last year and this year. But I disagree that his second class included "zero quality recruits."
His second full class was Darrell Williams, J.P. Olukemi, Mike Cobbins, Brian Williams and Markel Brown.
Even with losing D. Williams, that is looking like an excellent class at this point. All five have shown the ability to play at a high level in the Big 12. Of course, Ford can't do anything about losing Olukemi for the season to injury.
Last year's class was Jurick, Gurerro and Nash. All three are contributing in their first season.
Of course next year Marcus Smart and Phil Forte are coming.
So yes, Ford is to blame for having his first recruiting class bust that killed the past two seasons, but it does appear that he righted the ship with subsequent classes, and I think you'll start to see that pay big dividends next year and beyond.
