STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State sophomore point guard Fred Gulley said Thursday he has been diagnosed with a non-cancerous cyst in a shoulder bone and will undergo a surgical procedure that likely will end his season.
Gulley said the surgery will probably take place next week and he said the recovery time is expected to be three or four months.
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s been something that has been bothering him for awhile and it’s good to go ahead and get it fixed,” coach Travis Ford said, indicating that the Cowboys will lose their best perimeter defender and one of their few perimeter players with height.
“He was a very, very important piece to the puzzle, but it’s good that he will be able to get a redshirt year under his belt. He’ll only be a sophomore and he will be 100 percent healthy and he’ll have a great career.”
Gulley started the first seven games, averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds, but said pain got progressively worse. He missed the last three games.
