OT: Football Talk

WTSooner, just curious: What is your principle or reason that you won't ever donate to NIL/ payment to kids to play. I hate NIL/Portal stuff, but don't really have a strong reason that I wouldn't support it if I had the money. i wonder and worry about whether the course college athletics is going is sustainable or fair, or will destroy any semblance of competitive balance. But, if this isn't true and I had the money, I would probably do what I could afford to help OU keep up.

I have loved the Dodgers my entire life ..

I am not donating any money to those players either ..

I do and will continue to give to OU ..

The simplest response is I just don't believe in it. I don't think players should be making anywhere near what they are, and they money they do get, I don't think it should be coming from the fans.

These players are getting paid to do something most of us would do for free if we were able to. And they are getting a free college education.

Two things:

1. The old system was broken. Not paying them at all and not letting them have jobs was not the right answer. I'm all for them getting a little something to live on, etc.

2. The entire point of NIL or paying players was supposed to be based on them making money for various entities, and deserving a piece of that. Fair enough. That isn't anywhere close to what the current iteration of NIL is though. Why isn't the NCAA paying the kids? Do they not make a crap load off of them? March Madness? That is where this thing went off the tracks, the entities actually benefiting from the athletes haven't been the ones paying them. Make that make sense.

this is always repeated but it is not true ..

from the first millisecond it was approve this is what NIL was going to be .. and those that approved it knew it ..

If so, then it was misrepresented. It was not presented to the public as pay-for-play. I mean, it's right in the freaking name--Name-Image-Likeness.

I think it's pretty simple that college used to be about something more and bigger than just money.. it was allegiance to a school, a program, your teammates, passion of the game, tradition.. now it's just "eff it, just give me money". Heisman trophy winners will go in the portal after winning a natty daring his old school to let him walk or match is exorbitant fee put forward by somr unlicensed "agent" that more often than not, is going to be a family member of friend that leaches off of them. Continuity is ruined forever. You cant find a good player on a small school as a freshman and enjoy his progression for 4 years getting that small school better and better. It's just all crap now and money is the lifeblood supporting the crap

Again with the dumb responses.

Until this year not a dollar I've spent on season tickets has went directly to an OU player as a cash payment. Yes, that is changing, but it doesn't change the fact that I will absolutely not donate a single penny that is ear-marked for NIL. Not to OU directly, and not to any outside Collective or anybody else that is paying players.

That clear it up for you?
Yep, you just want to have your cake and bitch about it too.

Everyone with a brain knew what this was.
Of course everyone can see what it is, now. But I agree with Sky.. People were bitching that universities were making money off jerseys and stuff like that... which I agreed with. There had to have been a way to better handle getting the stars...pay attention... the players who had become stars AND EARNED IT... and had jerseys and other gear made after their actual "NIL". Texas A&M's top rated recruiting class in football a few years ago showed what it really was...Pay for play. They cheated. I always wonder how the Aggies were so well versed and efficient in their operation, so fast. Maybe it was because their vast network of paying players when it wasn't legal...everyone knows about SEC bagmen. Anyway, I digress. Four years ago, I mean with the benefit of hindsight we of course know now... But the dam broke much earlier and in a way I don't think many imagined. How could they? Nobody's ever experienced this on the collegiate level.

The fact that a guy like Quin Ewers could get an NIL deal in HS worth millions because of what a bunch of fat basement dwelling knobs ranked him at SL Carroll is ridiculous. Nico getting his deal out of HS, banking all this money for what we now see is a mediocre QB is disgusting. The unregulated hoodlum agents these players are using is disgusting. All these players who haven't done squat and getting paid hundreds of thousands and in some cases millions, is, well, disgusting. No care for a school and every year free agency is disgusting. I'll tell you what, many of these knuckleheads who play at 4 schools over 5 years are going to be broke, fat old men and not have an alumni association to call home and come back to. What comes around goes around.

I too won't ever donate a penny to an NIL collective. If the whole thing burns down, so be it. Of course i'll always root for OU in everything. I'm a diehard to the extent it's ridiculous. But, this system makes me want to throw up, and there's much better stuff I can spend my money on like making sure a jr high kid in Haiti has clothes and is able to go to school. That's the kind of crap I like to spend my money on. Nico, his agent(s), and all that ilk and game can kiss my * and that goes for a player at any school. I mean hey, I may buy a jersey some day for my 9 year old son if he wants it? I guess that would be supporting NIL. LOL. That's as far as i'll go. The stupid thing to add on to all this is the cost of simply going to a college football game any more. OU fleeces you. I'm fortunate to have the means to have a couple of big OU weekends a year but I always question myself on how much i'm spending. I really feel for the true OU fans who can't afford it. And now they want money for a collective, to pay some unproven punk millions who will probably not ever do anything??? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA good luck!
