I was reading an article about the 6A state championship game and at the bottom it mentions OKC Northeast won the 2A state championship. When I was in HS at Chickasha (4A), OKC NE was in our conference. How did they become a 2A school?

Northeast became an Academy School and students have to fill out an application and be accepted. Attendance is low and they ended up being a 2A school.

just another way the city schools screw over anyone else.. how was millwood ever a 2A school and 3A in bball?

They no longer are an academy school so a bunch of kids transferred out. This year they would have had the Woodards, Sterling Shepard and Mark Robinson from Millwood.

A massive loss of talent.

Millwood is an Oklahoma City public school but has always been a small district since they started in the 70's.

Centennial came as a Maps for Kids school (they won back to back titles and are loaded for years to come).

Douglas has always been 4A, at least the past decade or so.

There is no doubt that OKC schools are dominating small school hoops since the recent changes and will continue to do so.

When I was coaching at Star-Spencer, Northeast was a Class A school. AA was the highest class in those ancient days. They were a top 5 team in the state.

I was also wondering how they got to 2A in the current lineup. That would have been about Class C or maybe B back then.

I believe John Marshall HS was split during the MAPS for kids and Centennial was born. John Marshall is 2A or 3A as well, I believe. Is Southeast even still open???

Southeast is 5A. John Marshall is 4A, made state this year in fact.

I guess Southeast isn't relevant in any sport anymore as I haven't heard their name mentioned since Gerald McCoy was in school.

Wasn't John Marshall in the largest class (6A or 5A) just a few short years ago?

John Marshall certainly was in the largest classification at one time.

Sounds like the only OKC public HS that is still 6A is NW Classen? Or are they 5A or 4A now?

When I played US Grant, Capitol Hill, Douglass, and NE were all in our conference. It was a 4A class back when the largest class was 5A.
