Other College BBall Thread 2024-5

You can’t argue that PM hasn’t recruited well. The issue has been retention. Imagine Uzan, Oweh, Cooper, Fears, and Moore playing together. Athleticism through the roof 🙃

Edit: Add in that Mason kid from 2021-2022. He’s averaging 11 points for Arizona St. I’d take him over Elvis.
Bad fits.

Oweh fits with Kentucky because he’s surrounded by shooting.

Uzan fits at Houston because he’s surrounded by shooting.

Fears fits at Oklahoma because he’s surrounded by shooting.

Cooper fits at La Tech because he’s surrounded by shooting (and less comp for PT)

All 4 fall asleep off-ball defensively too often.

On top of that, we don’t have the money to pay for it. OU hasn’t been working with a budget that lends itself to retention when it comes to guys that are attractive to money-backed programs.

Uzan doesn’t want to share lead guard responsibilities, as evidenced by him wanting to transfer midway through last season because of splitting the ball with McCollum. No way he coexists with Fears.

We also don’t get Fears if Uzan’s still in Norman because they wanted the same thing. Moser was able to sell Fears on the void there.

Oweh and Uzan are really good players. There should be no such thing as “bad fits” for guys like that. If a coach can’t win with them, it’s not that the players aren’t good fits. It’s that the coach didn’t do a good job and/or the rest of the roster is terrible.

And you should tell Kelvin that Uzan falls asleep defensively. He can adjust his strategy since he had him guarding KU’s best perimeter threats most of the game.

I just mean that all of them together don’t fit, considering the size of role they’re all going to demand. Not that you shouldn’t be able to find plenty of guys to put around them. Especially for what it would cost to have all of them. It’s not enough shooting. That shouldn’t really be a controversial take.

I get that you’re going to cling to every single thing you can because you’re blinded by hate but he was awful last season defensively, particularly after the UNLV rumors came out. He quit. And people want to fork up a bunch of money on an already small budget for that? It’s not from a lack of urging & instruction from the staff. It should not be that hard to pull attention & effort from a guy you’re counting on to help lead your program. He’s better in some areas at Houston. Kelvin is absolutely one of the best defensive coaches in college basketball, if not the best. But Uzan has to know it’s now or never for his career. Added effort and attention at this point is as much career timeline driven as it is coaching differences. He was given some more responsibility last season (like we all agreed he was ready for, including himself) and he handled it like an immature brat. Change of scenery helps, and sometimes the second or third program gets the best version of a guy. I’m sure there are Ga Tech people that watch Jalon Moore, for example, and feel similar things, maybe about different traits.

Don’t even waste your time pointing out anything basketball related to 🤡s. Boomer

I personally don't think uzan was their 1st target at all as I imagine they could have done much better with the profile Houston has built up in recent years.
Agreed.
I’m sure he was their first target in the price range they could spend

Fun Fact since you dabble in the sports betting world also. Won Kansas first half, Grabbed the second half at -4.5, when Kansas was down 48-42 at the under 12 I grabbed KU +6.5, looked like both were locks to cash if Harris knocks down both free throws, almost lose both lol.
I am scarred by too many personal experiences in AFH, with OU and Kelvin, and also know that Self had almost never lost as a home dog, so when the line was still Houston -1.5 late Friday, I took KU on the ML. Never been happier to lose a bet. I was very close to going to the game, but my friend's son was sick and she couldn't make it. Given my track record of in-person attendance, I can assure you that had I been there, Houston would not have won lol. I have seen a few KU losses in the Phog (including our last win there in 1993), but most of them came when crying Roy was the coach.
