Other College BBall Thread 2024-5

Wow sensitive much? Too much stupid to respond to but I will say it’s impressive that you’re a wise enough person to be able to discern Tang’s morality, given the fact that you almost certainly don’t know the man at all. If he is such a bad coach, maybe he can hire Moser as his assistant if he gets fired and has to take a job at a lower level eventually.

As for misquoting Fran, he and other announcers have said a million times this season that Uzan is significantly better and tougher than he was before transferring. And I didn’t criticize anyone for positing the picture of the jersey retirement. I commented on how laughable it is to suggest that something that every team and coach in America would do for a ceremony just down the road is a sign that the team and coach are still bought it, when the product on the court shows otherwise.

With respect to Los, if you want to say he quit, fine. I’d rather have Los a hundred times out of a hundred if the choice is between him and the guy flailing around the sideline losing us games with his crappy coaching.
Sensitive, no. I just had plenty to say because I have a few minutes to myself and every third post on this forum isn’t me acting like an ass to anyone that’ll listen. Your knife gets dull from overuse.

I know as much about Jerome Tang as you know about Porter Moser.

I never said you criticized anyone for the Forsythe post, I said you made a lame comment, which you’ve just reiterated. It’s not surprising that with every response you try to twist the things I say, just like you did with Fran. I watch you do it nonstop with stats & narratives to amplify your ever-present agendas.

May I ask why the same nonsense is being regurgitated about Uzan improving under Sampson? Yay, good for him. He was an up-and-down player for 2.5 years and is now coming into his own in the second half of his junior season. I've been following college basketball for about a half a century and can list several thousand college players who made big improvements during the latter part of their college careers compared to how they were early in their careers. Some make those improvements under the same coach, and others like Uzan and some guy named Jalon Moore do it under a different coach.

Let me know when there is a player who makes a Stacey King-like improvement - a guy who went from averaging 7 points a game as a sophomore to 22 as a junior. Now THAT is an improvement. Amazing that anyone would actually argue post after post about a guy who has improved from 9 PPG to 11 while averaging the same assists, steals, blocks, etc as last year. Uzan has improved his shooting percentage, though, to about what it was as a freshman. He is no doubt a better all-around player than last year...which is something that could probably be said about 1500 or so current D-1 college basketball players.

This I can agree with. Very well said my friend.

And unlike you calling Tang a fraud of a human being, I have never claimed to know what type of person Moser is. Frankly, I don't care whether he is a fun guy to have a beer with, and think it's silly for anyone to ever claim to know that kind of thing about a person they have never met. I've never said Moser is a bad human being. I have said he is a bad coach. See the difference?

Oh whatever. You are constantly making personal insults into PMs character.

Posted this on TOS about Los. And BTW, I don't continually check game-by-game stats on Oweh and Uzan so I can make an argument on whether or not PM is a great coach or not. IMO, I want both of them to do well, and happy for them if they do- but as @WaymanFan posted, unless a guy makes a Stacy King type jump, hard to say the improvement in one year is due to one factor. And let's not overlook that he's playing on a #4 team in the country, surrounded by better players, and not passing the ball to Godwin for buckets/assists. BUt why use their success, or failure, at another program as a barometer of our program? Sometimes people need a change.

It's obvious Los played with great confidence last night, especially down the stretch. But that stare down at Kelvin told a story- that Kelvin has been on his arse all season and he HASN'T had the moment this season like last night. Not only the stare-down but Kelvin's throwing the fist in excitement was like, "I told you it could happen"

I would agree there is no doubt that Kelvin is a better coach and demands more from his players. I also believe Los has improved.

But let's not pretend the Uzan last night has been the Uzan all season. And most of all, most players on a #4 team in the country would be more confident and better because of the players around them. Better scorers to pass to for assists, better team defense so he looks better on D, too. Los has improved, but maybe some of it's due to the team.

I agree with all of this. I think Uzan would have improved had he stayed at OU. Same with Oweh. But, people still like to play the “Moser hasn’t had much talent” card. And I think Uzan and Oweh are great examples of the talent Moser has had and wasted.

I'm not sure where you are seeing evidence to make you think they would have improved had they stayed. You can count on one or two fingers the number of players who have improved playing under Moser for multiple seasons.

True. And I'm not saying PM and staff have done a great job with all players in coaching them up and maximizing their ability. And I've been a big critic on him for accountability with players' mistakes.

But some of that, a lot of it, is on the player(s). Plenty of games where Oweh dribbled off his foot out of bounds, missed bunnies at the rim, or shot 20%- or less- from three. From being at the LNC, one could see Los have terrible body language, head-down, not hustle back on D... or jump in the air in the paint to make a pass. Pretty sure Moser never conducted any jump-in-the-air and pass-backward drills. Pretty sure they didn't coach to dribble off the foot. Confident he told them to get back. Those are all traits both Oweh and Los demonstrated plenty, and we could probably go back to game threads and see a ton of criticism from this board toward the two of them.

Again, PM deserves some blame but I wouldn't say "he wasted" their talent. At some point, it's on the player, and sometimes a change will reset them for the better elsewhere.

Just like it did for Soares and Jalon coming to OU.

Wow..Georgia had a 11 point lead over Florida with about 3 mins left, Florida is on a 12-0 run and has taken a one point lead (first lead of the game) with 1:19 left.

Edit: Georgia pulls it out at the end…no easy ones on the road. Hopefully we can hold serve at home tomorrow.

I guess we aren’t the only team that has these issues!
Spoke too soon lol. Looks like Georgia is holding on.

Yeah that’s what happens when you actually shoot well at home..they shot 55% from 3, Compared to our 26% at home vs. Tennessee. Not gonna win many games doing that.

Georgia needed this to have a chance, it was only their 3rd Q1 win.
