Other College BBall Thread 2024-5

UCF had a chance for a slam for the ages yesterday and some dude for Houston contested it 100% and rejected one of the purest blocks I've ever seen on a power dunk. The whistle was blown because, well, officials are terrible, but it sent a message to the Knights. It was one hell of a basketball play. Milos is playing well for Houston and looks noticeably stronger.

The right coach and administrative commitment can get a hoops program going in the right direction in a hurry. I'm afraid we have neither.

The advanced numbers really show how much better Los has gotten this season. From a traditional stat standpoint, the decreased turnovers jumps out. And his defensive game is much improved. “We defend, we rebound, and we take care of the ball.”

Louisville pounded SMU by 25 in Dallas tonight, 98-73. That came on the heels of a total rout of Miami by SMU in Miami (I think it was by 44). Louisville and Arizona are making us look good, since we have neutral-site wins over them already. Arizona was laying it to "the basketball school" by 20, last I saw, in the Pantry of Doom.

Miami is a total trainwreck this year, and Seton Hall (another proud program) is stinking it up royally as well. Marquette beat them by 19 on the road tonight.

michigan is 12 zona 15 and louisville 22 in the NET

those are non con wins OU just didn't have last season

Those wins loom large and have aged pretty well. Was hoping Providence would figure it out but beating them, GT and OSU still helps.

We need to find a way to 8 SEC wins just to be safe
Georgia Tech is barely hanging onto Q-3 right now. OSU is Q-3. Providence is sliding toward Q-3.

Eight wins … you think this team is even remotely capable of going 7-6 after starting 1-4 against a relatively easy stretch of our schedule?

Wichita, 7-6 is going to be tough, real tough. But, I think there is a path. For me, it comes down to how Fears plays. If he plays like he did against South Carolina the rest of the way, anything is possible. If he plays like he did the first 3 and a half games of conference play, then no way we win 6-7.

Fland being out for the year might give us a chance at Arky that I didn't think existed before that news. Watched Arky a couple times this year, and Fland is the real deal. I think he was one and done before the injury anyway. To a much lesser degree, I think continued good minutes by Dayton and Mo will have an impact on our future record.

BTW, agree with you that Hurley appears to be a real asshat. But, the guy can coach. Just my uninformed and lay opinion, but he is the only coach in college basketball that truly understands how to coach and use bigs. Completely a lost art in my opinion.

With 9 games left against ranked teams, many of which are very highly ranked, 7 just seems unattainable. We were in a battle for 30+ mins at home against the worst team in the league even with Fears playing well and Moore playing great. I would love for this team to finally prove me wrong under Moser in conference play, but it seems unrealistic.

No doubt Hurley is a great coach. I just would hate to have to cheer for that guy if he coached my team. As for bigs, as well as he does with them, I think Self has a great track record going back over two decades. He used the 2-big system for a long time with great results.
