OU at Iowa State

Did you know that we actually outshot them from three, 14-9? They beat us overall on field goals by one. They did hit eleven more free throws than we did. Neither team shot well from the line. Rebounds, they won. We actually won the game in the field, 64-61.

Syb always on it. Some ppl rip on you here, but Im always with you. Throughout the course of the game it came down to a couple plays. 50-50 plays- We lost a lot of them. As far as straight up play, we won the game. We won the battles on straight up play. The 50-50's we lost too many to win the game. IMO

On the road, you have to outplay the home team. We didn't. We shot better from three. We hustled in the second half. We went dry for a spell in the first half. Was it 19 straight? We really lost the hustle plays during that run, and it was largely due to inexperience of those we put on the floor at that time. Oh well. They have to learn.

I don't listen to people who rip me. I'm old enough to know my own mind.

Well everyone that doesn't like what you have to say Im not too concerned about. But, Honestly. This is the game we grow a ton from -and- it was honestly a difficult win. Iowa State is a tough place to play and FINALLY, Some of our players toughness was completely expose. NOW, our coaches have no choice but to beat them up a little and I think its perfect timing. Sherri Izzo if, you will. Or so I hope. Thats all we need- To just toughen up a little bit. IMO

The players have to quit going brain dead in the last 3 minutes of a game. Freshmen or not.

Took some dumb shots down shots once we got the game bk. These Zones we will be seeing for the next 3 years I'd think-- Some need to become better passers and, some need to become more willing shooters- We will struggle if we do not learn... I like our prospects But we need to improve. National Title "contenders" would never lose to that team. I think we have the talent but we need to quit making the same mistakes. We haven't peaked yet tho. We have a lot more in the tank- I hope that comes before the season ends.

When we were up big in the beginning of the game we should have ran with the lead.

Yep. I have already commented in this thread that I thought Sherri erred by wholesale subbing early when we had the hot hand and the 10/12 point lead. If we were gassed (I couldn't tell it on TV), then that's one thing. But it appeared that Sherri thought that our bench would sustain while giving our starters a breather. Bad decision, the game turned at that point.

I'm watching Sherri's show. She is complaining of the exact same things we discussed during the game:

Poor rebounding
Poor defense
Not going inside enough to Kaylon.

Well, Maddie got her the ball four times all alone under the basket, and she blew three layups. She has been a lot better about that recently. But, she did miss some great chip shots.

Fouling out doesn't help. Kay Kay, Sharane and Carter foul out all to often.

Several bad passes.

Difficulty collecting the ball when rebounding.

At the end Gabby and Maddie were trying way too hard to make things happen.

Good fight to come back in the second half. I agree, this team has more upside. Let's hope they learn from it. Top teams win games like this and we should have won it because we had the opportunity to do so.

I wondered if Sherri would discuss the substituting pattern as well as the defensive schemes during the game that Rocjunkie brought up but she didn't talk about either. She did point out that Peyton did not have a good defensive game. I thought Gabbi had a bad defensive game and should not have been guarding Moody. She didn't talk about that either.

Peyton was consistently late getting out to the wing. I wonder if she was thinking of the need to help Gabbi because Ortiz was COMPLETELY unable to stop Moody.

Either Peyton as to move toward the lane to make Moody have more defenders to worry about or our center has to come over and help. The center rarely helped, so Peyton was left with the task and the result was their shooters were wide open for threes. Peyton didn't close fast enough.

Bad decision on Sherri's not to adjust and put Carter on Moody, or Peyton.

Kaylon was not sliding over to help early in the game. Then, following a timeout, she moved over 2 times in a row to stop penetration. I thought, "okay, Sherri talked to her and now it's working the way it's supposed to". Then we reverted right back to not helping. Moody was having a field day.
