What stuck out to me when looking this up was how many games went to overtime when Kelvin was coaching and how few went to OT when Tubbs was coaching, even though he was here longer. There were a few years when Tubbs coached that no games went to OT. I guess it's hard to go have many OT games when you are winning by 40!

Here are the last 4 coaches records in overtime games.

Tubbs 11-5 (69%)
Kelvin 17-12 (59%)
Capel 6-0 (100%)
Kruger 0-3 (0%)

I believe fewer possessions --> closer games --> greater likelihood of overtime. I imagine that would explain the disparity between Sampson and Tubbs in number of overtime games.

Where were the games played? That is extremely important.

3 of Capels were with BG (@UWV, Baylor in Norman, and Purdue NIT final), @utah, osu in Norman, NC Central in Norman, @ ISU.

Capel was actually 7-0.

Krugers were SFA in Norman, last night, and @ aTm last year.

0-3 is crap, I don't care how you slice it.

Also, say what you want about capel, but ou was better under capel in year 2 than they are now and he cost about 1.25 million less.

Considering the loss of pledger, romero, fitz, and grooms, ou will be very fortunate to make the tourney next season.

If ou lets this loss fester, they won't be dancing and next year could be Lon's last chance.

Thanks "Tiny"...too bad we spent money paying you to come play for us. Cost us a lot more than we gained. :ez-laugh:

Capel is and was nothing but a joke.

Next year could be Lon's last chance at what? It would only be his third season into a seven-year contract that includes a buyout of $1.2 million for every year remaining. Even if Lon Kruger takes a dump on David Boren's front porch, OU isn't going to pay him $4.8 million to leave after three years.

The bolded part just shows your intelligence level. This roster doesn't have anyone with near the talent of BG, who was on that OU team. It also doesn't have a 3rd year starter in AJ at PG, Godbold was a 4th year starter as the 2 guard, not to mention Taylor and LL who were both pretty good players with a lot of experience.

Instead, this team has 1 player who would have started on that team, and maybe 2 (Osby and M'Baye). That's it.

In Capel's 2nd season, we had 12 losses by an avg margin of 15 points including 3 30 point losses. (@KU, Texas in the Big 12 championship, and Louisville in the NCAA). That year the team underperformed all year.

This year, the team has maximized their talent and done far more than anyone expected.

Capel is a joke , But I promise you Sampson is the best coach ou may have the next 30 plus years. His winning % in 5 point games/close games is crazy high, and those are all about coaching.

Sampson never had the talent some of these others have had, but in close games its about players mental toughness and coaching.

Sampson was a great coach but a lot of those close games were because we had scoring droughts of 8-10 minutes which allowed the other team to either get back in the game or stay in the game. Defensively and hustle, I agree Sampson was as good a coach as OU will ever have, but Kruger is light years better offensively than Kelvin.

close games are close games, saying that he had alot of close games because of scoring droughts is straight up pulling it out of your ass.
Even if that were the case win is a win, and obviously he pulled it out....which is more then I can say for us last night

Actually it was @OSU, @Texas and @A&M. My only point is I would expect the home team to win the vast majority of OT games, especially if they are the team that mounted the comeback to take it to OT or it was simply a close game from start to finish.

I don't recall Capel's OT games but I wasn't trying to insult Capel. I don't need to insult Capel. Anyone that followed OU basketball knows Capel is the worst coach at OU since prior to and including Dave Bliss. Joe C really F'd that up when he hired Capel. But the good news is Jeff Capel is a Jay Z fan so hes got that going for him.

That might be the perception, but I don't think it's the reality.

Foolish post.
