OU hires Mark Carr as new soccer coach

Ollie, I ended up coaching non-competitive co-ed Soccer for about 5 years and even at that I had to have a minimum F license to coach. I ended up with an E and was going to get a D the following year, but my son and daughter gave up the sport and I saw no need. From what I remember with your C license you would be able to coach up to NAIA and possibly Division II NCAA, I know you have to have a minimum B for Division I and an A for the National or Pro. The license classes were extremely helpful to me in setting up practices and learning the different positions on the field. Two day events for the F and E, and I know it was two weekends for the D. I have a friend who is coaching girls competitive right now and his license classes are done on line for the most part with one day of field work. However you really need to know the laws of the game, more so than I had to know. Of course that was about 25 years ago.

Thanks for reminding me, Rock!

Volleyball is the hot sport for girls especially in the Edmond area. The girls don't have to run, sweat or bump into other girls. Girls numbers in all other sports in high school especially basketball are down.

My niece played volleyball, basketball and soccer in high school. She chose volleyball for college. She said soccer got rougher and rougher every year and she didn't like basketball as much.

It is a physical game. You may not run into other players, your risks of concussions would probably be down which if I had a child, that would be a major concern, boy or girl, in their playing. However, you do have to be athletic. I imagine the young women play what they enjoy. I played basketball but I would have loved the opportunity to play volleyball, also. I think it is an awesome sport. I doubt girls play sports that are determined by their having to run or sweat. I am quite sure to get in shape for the sport they do weights, running, jumping. Not saying some players, both male and female would rather play sports in which they don't have to run, get hot, get knocked out; but not strictly a female thing.

Volleyball is a sport that is available to females more so than males so why they may play it more than their male counterpart.

Who wants to play soccer and risk concussions? and leg injuries which could affect the rest of your life? She preferred volleyball, that is valid that a person would prefer playing one sport over another.
