Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

We would have lost this game last year, especially early. We have a lot to work on, but I'm pleased we found a way to win. HUGE 3 from Jordan.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

And he wasn't in the act of shooting. Was Cousins trying to foul him so they wouldn't get a 3 off?

I think he saw a chance to end the game with a steal and it backfired on him. I replayed that call several times and always came to the same conclusion: It was a horrible call, because Cousins got all ball.

Having said that, though, Isaiah should have known better than to take a swipe at the ball in a game where the officials were making some questionable calls, both ways. You don't put a three point shooter on the line with the clock stopped when you have a four point lead on the road.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Please tell me the assistant coach with 2 sons on the team has been a long time Memphis assistant.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Ha awesome.. I'm sure he had an extensive coaching background......

In fairness he did have an undefeted Tennesse 3A basketball team in 05-06. I'm sure that's how he got the job. Has to be right?

Lol nope.

And his third son, who is supposed to be the best of them all, is currently committed to Memphis.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Nice finish on the road.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

I want to give Buford some accolades. He was solid in there tonight. Better than Lattin of Jumuni. I was kind of hoping one of the taller guys would step up. But, Buford put himself ahead today.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

I'm happy with getting out of there with a win. That was a great clutch shot by Woodard! I really liked the outside shooting today...it will be a strength all year long. The team played with poise down the stretch...no panic in them at all.

Two things still bother me, though. I don't like Cousins running the point...he's just not a natural at it. This team has too many veterans to be committing the number of turnovers we committed today. The other thing I'm worried about is rebounding. We're going to face many better shooting teams than Memphis, and they will kill us if we give them all those second and third chances Memphis got. I'm almost afraid to know how many offensive rebounds they got.

All in all, come mid-March, the only thing the Committee will know is we got a quality road win. I'll take it!

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Lattin's lack of offense and not being that great on defense doesn't justify him playing right now IMO. Maybe he just played bad today though.

To me he's the perfect energy guy /sixth man and that's all he's ever going to be . Not that there is anything wrong with that , I just see him as a starting 5

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Really grim thread. Had there not been a score mentioned here and there I would have believed we were getting blown out. But a lot of it came from guys who trashed the team all year last year.

I missed the first 10 minutes. Looked to me like some questionable calls kept Memphis in the game, but they are no pushover. They are long and quick and shoot the ball pretty well. (They did cool off down the stretch). Also it is hard to play defense when you are having a foul called on you when you are flat footed with your arms straight up. Badly officiated game.

My biggest complaint was us getting out of control at times. We missed a big opportunity to put the game away when we were stuck at 61 points. And then they took two away from us to add to the frustration. And we had more turnovers than normal.

I also missed the first part of the second half so the only newcomers I saw play were James and Buford. I thought they, particularly James acquited themselves well.

We played better the 2nd half, a lot of questionable turnovers and decisions with the ball but it was getting a bit ridiculous how the refs would allow Memphis to hack away on every drive to the basket with no foul calls. Also refusing to call a foul because it would have fouled out one of their big men is ridiculous.

Going to be a lot of teaching points from this game but we gotta get a lot better on the boards and with the ball.

Expectations are really high this year and they should be but winning this game is a huge step.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Memphis Gameday Thread<<<<<<

This team has a bright season ahead. Didn't think we looked sharp yet pulled it out. One of Buddy's drives was amazing as he weaved through about 5 guys. Sweet 3 by Jordan to late to put us up. Only gonna get better.

Yep. And from the usual suspects as you pointed out. I'll never understand those types.

I was shocked to learn we were up at the half. From the readings, you would've thought our deficit was double-digit.

There's a reason I never come to game threads until after the game and never read the posts made during the game. :ez-laugh:

Some of you guys are too sensitive. I think it is funny reading some of the comments. Some people are just more emotional than others but I know they want the team to win.
