Sorry - not basketball related, but I am looking to take my son to the OU-Texas game for his 18th birthday. I have been a season-ticket holder - purchasing from another party for the last 15 years and have been going to OU games since 1976.

My son's birthday is October 10 and almost always falls around the RRR game.

And, I have never been to an OU-Texas game. I have been to Manhattan, Lincoln, TCU and Stillwater, but never the Cotton Bowl.

I was hoping you guys might have some good ideas about how to get the best deal on tickets.

You're going to be able to get something REAL cheap this year, wait until the week of the game.

There is no full proof plan to get cheap tickets. Sometimes you can happen to be at the right place at the right time, other years you have to pay a bit more.

Go in knowing that face value is probably going to be between $125-150 per ticket.

If you don't mind sitting in the endzone, like, high up central endzone, you can probably find some for a bit above face value.

Other than that, all I can say is scour the websites. StubHub. Tickets Unlimited (I think). There are a couple out of the OKC area that typically have a large selection.

I would recommend NOT sitting in the UT section, even though there might be cheaper seats down there.

I never had to sit in the UT section, but if those were the only tickets I could get? I'd buy them and then find a longhorn fan in the OU section to switch with. I figure they'd want to switch sides as much as I would.

Face value on the tickets this year are $140.

Do yourself a favor and pony up the extra $100 a seat, assuming the person you are buying them from isn't already passing that on to you, and get your own season tickets. The donation you give would get you very close to being able to qualify for OU/texas tickets.

Please explain?

I'm a season ticket holder that doesn't donate any extra. I was told at one point I the donation required to get close to receiving OU/ut tickets was at least a thousand, if not more. Is that not true?

The prices of tickets is proportional to how well the teams are doing during the season leading up to the games. If both teams are undefeated, then ticket prices will be really high. However, UT plays ND and TCU on the road in addition to Cal, Rice, and OSU at home. I would guess they have 2-3 losses. Of course, OU plays at Tennessee so we could have a loss, too.

If you get tickets off eBay or a ticket site ahead of time, I'm guessing you will pay $500-600 for a pair. More for good seats. Assuming some UT losses, maybe $400 at the Cotton Bowl.

Both teams will have losses coming into the game, UT most likely three. Buzz will be down.

Not true. I do not donate, but have season tix for both bball and football. Its based on points system. We go to all football and nearly all bball, get extra points for attendance. We have been able to buy OU-ut tix for the past 3 years. Donations will get you up the points ladder faster.

Texas tickets are assigned by donation level first, then by points within that level. If that helps.

I donate $500 and get 4 tickets every year. When I was donating $1500 I was getting 6 a year.

Some of that may have to do with what kind/level of tickets you have too.

Mine are cheapies in the South Endzone. And while I've had them for 15+ years, and love my view (up high), I realize they are probably some of the "worst" tickets OU has. I'd guess that paying for tickets on the 30 yard line, even without a donation, carries more weight than my current tickets.

Luckily for me, I've had access to 2 OU/ut tickets for face value the last few years. Hopefully that will continue for awhile. Before that, I simply had to fork over about $400 for 2 tickets around the start of the endzone.

there are some OU season tickets that come with texas tickets .. that is the only exception to the "assigned by donation level first" then points in level rule ...

My seats are in the North Endzone on rows 69 & 70 with no donation required. Technically all seats are the same price in the stadium though some require higher donation levels to be eligible to purchase. If you donate $250 a year you're likely to be eligible for a pair of OU/texas tickets.

I'll find out next year.

My seats are going away with the renovation, so I'll be getting to deal with the ticket people about relocation. I'll broach that topic with them, and see what answer I get. Thanks for the info.

My oldest son and his family moved to Edmond this summer, and he got 4 season tickets in the upper deck on the west side. I'm not sure if he made a donation but may have. He told me recently he got 2 Texas tickets.

So the real question is does he want to sell them ;)

So much for the rumors of a long waiting list.

Unless he was already on said waiting list.
