I expect some good news and some bad news. The good news will likely be that we can see the starters at the beginning of the game. The bad news is, I doubt if we get to see them as much as we would like. Of course, that does give reserves an opportunity to play but it also generally means the game is likely to get sloppy. I will be surprised if any starter plays more than a couple of quarters. Since they will have a distinct advantage, I expect the 4s and 5s to look really good tonight.

Two and a half hours from the first action of the season against another opponent, At one time, Southwestern State was a basketball power capable of beating a good number of D-1 teams. I doubt they have a player capable of playing for OU now. I'm rather sad that the glory of the regional teams has been diminished.

I'm looking forward to my first glimpse of Penzo and EJ. I've been waiting for two years to see why Penzo was on the All-Tournament team with Lauren Cox, Asia Durr, and Bonnie Samuelson, along with the Canadian center. I remember on reporter's comments that Penzo was the one that excited him.

I want to see if Maddie has decided that she wants to shoot and take over a game. She is capable of taking over a game like nobody that we have had. I want to see if Vivi has advanced as much over the summer as she did last Spring. We should be able to tell some things just by watching the demeanor of the players on the court, or lack thereof.

I will be disappointed if the reserves are incapable of playing solid ball against SW.

Peyton looked really good. EJ will be a good reserve this year. Gabbi missed some shots but played hard. I like L. Williams and T'ona on defense. Both need to play smarter on offense. Kaylon had some nice moves but appears out of shape.

Hope to see more from Maddie in the second half.

So its the end of the 3rd quarter. I just have access to the radio feed (and only listened to 1 quarter so far), and I'm looking at the live stats. I know the stats don't tell everything, but there are 2 HUGE stats that stand out to me (one good, one bad) right now.

Good: We're winning the turnover battle 21-6!!!!!! Wahoooooo!
Bad: We are 3-17 from behind the arc, 18%. Yuck yuck yuck

I think we have made more 3s than that. Maddie made 1 and Peyton has made some. But, we have missed several.

In the 4th, Maddie has made 2 and Peyton made 1 (maybe the other way around), so now we're 6-24 for 25%

Considering this will be the worst team we will play this year, there is plenty of room for improvement.

I saw enough tonight to know we need to get Gioya back. The Sooner the better.

We have talked about every year that I can remember but I'm saying it again...we need to use a basketball fundamental that's been around for decades, the pump fake.

AND the pull-up jumper.

With this team, we don't really need to be driving the lane unless we have the ability to finish. We have the passers to get to the lane and pitch out to someone who is open for an easy shot.

I honestly thought we looked good. Relatively balanced. Lots of chemistry. Obviously have a lot to fix but I think overall we will have a good season.

I agree. I liked what I saw of EJ and Penzo. We should have good depth.

I also thought we showed our talent and depth, and highlighted what we need to improve on. Improve poor shooting, work smarter and harder on defense, and get more in tune as a team. Focus all the time without lapses like we had in the third quarter. But lots of promise.
I also have to reevaluate my opinion of EJ. She was aggressive tonight, and showed her athletic ability much better than in the scrimmage. She will help this year, and as she increases her basketball savvy, she could be really good.
I see us really pushing Texas and Baylor for championship honors.
