OU vs. SDS No ViVi

I put a lot of the blame on the coaches, let's start with Sherri - first she needs to makes some changes, time to let friendships go and professionalism move forward. We have assistance sitting on the bench not doing anything but drawing a pay check. Sherri needs to stop worrying about how she looks and start getting fired up and into some peoples faces (players and coaches). Sherri needs to step back and take a look at the type of player she is recruiting - now don't get me wrong I like the fact that she recruits players with good morals and conduct but what about going after some that are nasty with the ball is tossed up and play hard. Go get the type of players who want to win, I don't see this in this bunch right now.

If I'm wrong please tell I am but I just don't see the killer instinct in these ladies.

As I posted after the last loss, play the freshmen and EJ. They need the experience to grow.

The goal now should be to develop these 4. I like Maddie, Gabbi and Vivi, butthe emphasis must be on the youngsters.

Missed practice as in sick or injured? Or missed practice as in didn’t show up?

Weird to say it, but I'm glad to see that. I was seriously concerned that after they all got thrown under the bus (not they should not have), that maybe she just wanted to concentrate on being a doctor.

I agree I thought maybe Sherri was going harder after Vivi, and that would be a little unfair, this is really her 1st year as a true starter, and Gabbi and Manning are the players with the most experience.... I waiting to see the Manning that Sherri said she watched over the summer someone who is going to call for the ball more... While I see Manning is trying to run the show, she's still having a hard time putting the ball in the hoop.

Maddie has been a good (not great) shooter in the past four years. She does seem to be better during conference season. But, she seems much better when she isn't thinking, just reacting.

The announcers noticed in one game that she wasn't following through on her free throws. Then, they saw her change that after a miss. I think that is the problem that she has shooting right now. She seems to be consciously shooting rather than feeling normal.

I wonder if it is the thought of "I have to shoot," or whether it might be that the offense isn't providing the open looks that it would if everyone were running it properly. Both Maddie and Gabbi seem to be having difficulty getting open looks. Gabbi also looks forced. When Gabbi is just reacting, she hits from deep, maybe three feet behind the arc. But, I have rarely seen her open other than just an instant.

Little had that same problem to a very similar degree last season.

Perhaps it's the offense or lack of setting proper screens for our shooters at the right moment. But even when Maddie or Gabbi have gotten an open look, they aren't knocking them down at a great percentage. Perhaps they are rushing the shot a bit along with all of the above.

We do not consistently move the ball or the players in our half court offense. Our players have had a hard time getting open shots behind the arc back to Whitney Hand. To make matters worse many of the shots taken from that range are forced, out of rhythm or from very far out. Doesn't make for a high percentage on treys.

That's a pretty big admission for you, Syb. You've been the biggest Maddie PR guy for years. Two years away, I think, did impact the way she's played the last two seasons. But we should also consider she was overrated.

Or that she doesn't have much to offer in the way of leadership skills.

She's been a good Sooner and we are all pleased that she came here, but Whitney Hand, Stacy Dales, Abi, Thompson, D-Rob, The Twins, Rothlesberger and Rush, she ain't.

Good observation. Sherri has mentioned that we played the entire first quarter without reversing the ball once.

The Maddie that I saw in the Hawaii tournament prior to her two ACL injuries was the most talented player that I have seen at OU. She could leap higher than posts, had speed and quickness, and a nice shooting touch. I have seen occasional flashes in the past three years, a couple of minutes per game. But, it seems that she has been deferential. I am totally bewildered thus far this year. Even when the team was playing well in the first couple of games, she was not in a flow. We'll see.

I completely agree. Every year there's so much talk about her potential and she never delivers. Maybe we just need to face it and admit she's not the player that we hoped for. Needless to repeat, she's definitely not strong mentally, not a leader, just disappears when we have big games. Along with Ortiz. I'll be glad when next season comes around and our primary scoring comes from fresh players who haven't been under SC for several years, i'm sure that will make a difference. Seems that its very rare these last few years for a player to actually get better in any aspect after several years under SC. Not since DRob have I seen a player actually improve.
