92-53, final!
When we came out on fire in the first quarter, I immediately wished that Texas was our first opponent after that debacle in Stillwater. Hopefully we sustain this level of intensity and focus on Saturday because, if so, we can give Texas a run for their money.
Our use of Gioya before this game had been pretty baffling to me. She seemed hesitant and stunted and I wasn't sure why we weren't redshirting her. I can't imagine the pressure she was feeling when she knew that she would only play for 3-4 minute spurts off the bench. It is so hard to shoot confidently and play freely when you know you have a very limited time to productive. Sherri thrusting her into the starting lineup today was incredibly smart. Our ol' coach knows a thing or two
Good thoughts.I think they were holding her back and waiting for that first sign of herself- Sherri said after that game that she had her first real good practice yesterday and they just rolled the dice. better than never. That was 13 pts in fairly limited minutes...A better Maddie this season- along with the the supporting cast all being better, should should make it easier for Gioya than what she had the second half of conference player last season as well- where she was the defensive focal point. Im still worried ppl will have her figured out, but if nothing else they still have to worry about keeping her figured for an entire game and that opens others up. If she can limit the turnovers and occasional poor shot selection then this will be the turning point. We don't need Gioya to average 15 points for her to be very effective, we just need the threat of another player that attack the rim- and the way she does it with such physicality and explosiveness is exactly what we need to balance our offensive attack. VERY excited for TEXAS
I think my membership expired. They finally go the live stats on the webpage.
Good thoughts.
