OU vs Tech

I loved the environment today. All the school kids getting into the game. This was the team I have been waiting to see. Seems like the team meeting helped get the kids focused and re-energized toward the conference season. The ball movement was crisp. The most cutting to the basket and moving without the ball we have seen in a while. I haven't seen the stats but not a lot of stupid turnovers, and the shooting was pretty good all around.

Nice to see Gioya and Maddie play with confidence today. I agree with what has been said, our post play and their play can take us a long way if we can start to get consistency. Good blow out win and glad every one got playing time.

The technical was really unusual, I had that happen to me, when my score book was not in order. I had left a player off that wasn't going to play. From that point on I made sure my book was in order. We were sitting behind the Tech bench a few rows up, and I certainly did not see what caused the second T. Maybe it was language, Coach was pretty animated during some of the time outs.

Good post! I think we've since bits and pieces of this team today along the way so far, but this was the most complete, beginning to end, performance by far!

They scored the most of any Big 12 team in conference game this season and had the largest margin of victory in Big 12 conference games as well. We just need to continue to grow from this so we can continue to see this team we've been waiting to see.

I really hope the kids can stay focused, and as Gioya said in the post game, play without thinking too much, just play.

My grandson Fidel goes to Briarwood in Moore. His 6th grade class was in attendance. He doesn't really follow a school. He said he would love to go watch basketball again at OU. Building OU fans. I hope this game was just the beginning of them believing if they work and play hard together. All things are possible.

I was basically referring to the inception of this OU Women's board, not just this year. Rarely it's been different whether it was Final 4 year or 18-13 year. As I've said a few times over the years, no one posting on this board is saying this program, or even Sherri, is perfect. I've seen many of the so-called "sunshine pumpers" be disappointed in team play, coaching decisions, etc. and have stated such. But there has been a constant tone on this board for years that every thing Sherri does or says is wrong and I'm pretty sure it's personal, although I'm not sure why.

I think today is what the so-called "sunshine pumpers" or glass half full people have suspected how this team could play based on pieces we've seen this year. The key is can they play up to, or near this level, for the remainder of the season. It will be difficult, for sure, but when they do, they can play with most anyone in the country not named UConn.

I think we all hope we can take this game and positives and work on things needing improvement (FT shooting today) and move ahead. But I can almost guarantee the posts after the next loss! This was a big step forward but they are still a work in progress to get where THEY want to be and where they CAN be.
Yes.

If some don't like to read anything critical, there is a simple answer. They can go to other boards, they can stay away from this board for a few days, or they can put certain posters on ignore. If they choose not to follow one of these options they should stop feigning outrage.

I think your grandson's comment is the reason we've had this game the last two years. I'm glad the girls stepped up and he and his friends were able to see them at their best.

Does the think reasoning apply to people who don't like to read positive posts?

Sure! Have you seen that happening?

What I've seen is lots of ridicule from both sides of the fence.

I've seen some people who can respectfully point out positives and negatives regarding a specific game or player

I've also seen some people who NEVER post unless we lost or played badly.

I've seen some people who appear to be nothing but trolls and deserve to be put on ignore by everyone.

I've seen people who complain about the trolls told to 'ignore' them but I don't remember ever seeing people who complain about the 'sunshine pumpers' told to 'just ignore them'.

I freely admit that I don't read every thread on the board. If it's obvious by the thread title that the tread is just troll bait, I move on. Some people just aren't worth the time and effort it takes to reply to them.

I've seen lots of people, who were thoughtful posters and used to post frequently, who seldom post any more. I miss them.

If anyone wants to see more positive posts, they should start them. Some of the ones who complain the loudest virtually never start any threads, positive or otherwise.

Okay, I am really not being hateful but I believe we should all be aware of comments like that. People cannot help what they look like and why should we care......looks aren't important and really, if you are referring to Griner, she has a pretty face but a masculine voice. How can we expect our children not to bully if they hear and read adults saying these things. Of course, you may not be an adult, I don't know. But, if not an adult, know this is not funny and is very unkind and bigoted. I doubt that you are a bad person but just made a bad remark.

okay, I might have gone too far...

fwiw, I've coached HS girls ball and my sis played at a Big 8 school years ago...
PC crowd alive and well...

and for soonergirl who claimed my "silence" was ...whatever...I've prob been to see and watched more OU women's games than most on here...but ok.

If you are talking about the post "and the silence continues," I am pretty sure
that was not aimed at you, unless I missed something in this thread. Maybe she will clarify, if she sees your post.

I can assure you Soonerinkc, my post about silence had nothing to do with anything except I was teasing the posters who jump all over Sherri and the team whenever they lose or have a close game, but disappear when they win and play well.

I think of them as birddroppingpumpers. :)

lol
May we shorten that to bdp?

So all of this was aimed at Vinny?

Yeah. It was aimed at Norm., Atlanta Sooner, me, Vinny, and anyone who doesn't totally and always agree with them that all Sherri does is perfect always.

It is hard to evaluate Sherri. She has a way of bouncing back and she definitely lifted the Sooners to national prominence. She is a credit to the university.

She seems to be a good coach but the great ones do not have teams that play like their hair is on fire one game and like they have gone 48 hours without sleep or food the next game. That rarely if ever happens to Geno's or Muffins teams or Pat Summits in the past.

My biggest complaint at this time is the bad judgment by the players. Passes that have little or no hope of connecting. Shots well behind the NBA arc or at bad angles near the basket. Drives and passes into double and triple team. I know she likes her players to take risks but at times they are so close to the edge they fall off.

I have always faulted her for not using her depth but she is using it on steriods this year and has begun to develop a more consistent pattern. Getting Carter back has really helped.

A lot of people give her a lot of grief about recruiting maybe because she has gone on record not liking recruiting. But she has a McD all-american coming in along with a player who seems to be breaking out. Llanusa should really also have a shot at all-american and has a lot of game. Now if she can fill out that 17 class and land Murcer in 18 we could be in good shape. I also like the girl out of Kentucky. I still don't understand the dropping of the summer program.

We do a good job of uptempo when we can rebound but we are also inconsistent there and have big rebounders like Ortiz and Edwards leading the team at times.

I think with the depth we have we could play a lot more full and half court pressure defense. But I am partial to pressure defense. I believe that pressure defenses could add to our up tempo offense

We are also inconsistent in our half court offense. Sometimes we move around well and at other times no one is moving but the one with the ball. We run some brilliant out of bounds plays but at times we have a hard time getting open for good shots. Little has a particularly hard time and then when she gets open she doesn't shoot with confidence. I don't understand why she doesn't shoot more pull up jumpers. She has a quick first step but always passes off after penetrating to 8-10 feet from the basket. she has great short range touch and if she started pulling up and nailing short jumpers she would find herself open more often from behind the arc.

If Sherri can get her team to play with more consistency we could be tough this year, especially if what we saw from Carter against Tech is what we will see from now on. If not it is concievable that we would finish behind not only Texas and Baylor but also West Virginia and Oklahoma State, Uggg

Some excellent comments, as usual! We are consistently inconsistent. That was not a big problem when we had players like DRob and Courtney. We knew what to expect. Now, we have no clue.

I am very glad Carter is back because she brings a midrange game (as well as outside) that no one else does. She is also a good defender.

The Texas game should tell us more about how good we are.
