OU vs Utah State from Myrtle Beach 2pm CST on ESPN2

Does Utah State has new coaching staff and new roster too ?

all most every one stayed ......

that tends to happen when you are 24 and don't want to move your family ..

5 guys married 3 more engaged ..

A deeply disappointing loss. Even with the lousy officiating, we should have won. We have a nice lead with five minutes left, and our next four or five possessions are abysmal. Several terrible calls and non-calls down the stretch helped seal the deal, but we lost it in the stretch from the 5-minute mark to two minutes left with some terrible basketball.

Not a game we should have lost. IMO, this game pointed directly to our weaknesses.

J. Groves is making himself darn near unplayable with his lack of defense, especially if he isn't going to make open 3's.

Noland needs more playing time.

Goldwire has to play better than he did today.

I also though Harkless played pretty poorly in the 1st half. A couple minutes in he has an easy skip pass to another guard for a wide open three, and never saw it. Got caught flat-footed on D a few times as well.

Spot on summary of the final score, Sky! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Four poor decisions in a row at a time when we had the Aggies on the run. I didn’t expect that from a Porter Moser coached team. Obviously, we have some work to do!

This game also is a reminder of how depth isn’t always what it appears to be against lesser opponents. Only nine points from the bench. I agree that CJ has probably earned more minutes going forward.

And we really need to eliminate the careless turnovers. We were such a low turnover team the past few years that it is a shock seeing some of the carelessness.

Lots of whining about the officiating but that’s not what cost us the game. We were extremely undisciplined and we just aren’t ready for prime time.

Too many blown assignments on defense and bad shots on offense.

2nd guessing is terrible but perhaps instead of the Goldwire layup at about 6 sec should have worked for look 3. Then again shooting 3s wasn't very good today.

Actually, ten turnovers as a team is not too bad—except when five of the ten are committed by your starting point guard.

Just saying that having extra years to learn the game of basketball and work on your body is a massive advantage. He has had 5 years more than Jalen Hill to learn basketball, yet he is only one year ahead in terms of classification.

I would agree with you if he spent two years in the G-league, overseas, or maybe even playing minor league baseball, but spending two years serving in a third-world country isn't even remotely the same thing.

There's an obvious benefit to being 20 as an incoming freshman instead of 18, but the difference between being 22 and 24 isn't anywhere near as pronounced.

his mission was in reno nevada .

yeah tanner groves at 25 would average about 30 a game in college ..

...

Ahhh yes, and when he's 28 he would be scoring 60 points a game, as your scoring output roughly doubles every 2-3 years. Plateaus aren't real.

25-year-old Tanner Groves would ABSOLUTELY be doing what Blake Griffin, Buddy Hield, Trae Young, Wayman Tisdale, Stacey King, Alvan Adams, Harvey Grant, Mookie Blaylock, Hollis Price, and Ryan Minor were unable to do. Given how easy it is to score 30 PPG once you turn 24, I think we should start offering all the Mormons we can find.

Especially with two years in an OU strength and conditioning program. Dude would look like Taylor Griffin.

When did Taylor Griffin score 30 PPG? I don't recall him ever reaching 10 PPG.

That’s what’s expected from a 5th year backup who came from a team that wasn’t as good as OU last year. He would be a great backup pg for a top 15 team.

They have a good team. We had trouble stopping their inside game. But if we can blame anything it was too many trey attempts early in the shot clock. I think this offense may be depending on Tanner and a bunch of outside shots with only Gibson being a good outside shooter. How much we improve the offense will depend on the season's success.

couldn't tell much about the officiating but their constant challenging of our defense inside would account for much of the foul differential.

My personal experience is that I have a hard time being clear eyed about the officiating when my team is playing. My objections to calls somehow have a way of being wrong an uncomfortable number of times.

Just looked at the box score. We allowed Justin Bean to abuse us for 24 points and 19 rebounds. That is unacceptable. We are going to have to clean up the defense if we want to compete in the Big 12.

This was a good barometer type of game to determine where this team is right now. Utah State is a veteran team and likely a 10/11 type of seed in the NCAA tournament......which is where I think we are right now. I believe the goal this year should be to finish is the top half of the conference (which I think is realistic) and get a 7 seed or better (I may be a little too optimistic on this one).

As the guys play more together in Moser's system, they will get better. However, this team has "ceilings" in certain areas and will struggle when they don't take care of the ball and/or can't hit outside shots. I believe the defense will be there most nights, but they were certainly not good against Bean.....can't let that happen.

I agree, go back home get better is the only option. Whining about the officiating does not do anything to help the team.

Virtually everyone has commented on the team's failings during the game. That doesn't preclude also mentioning the poor officiating. I don't think anyone has blamed the officiating exclusively or even primarily.

But we lost by three points and USU was awarded 13 more free throws than OU. Groves' phantom fourth foul put him on the bench at a key point late in the game, and Goldwire was fouled on the drive that drew us within one point late in the game, but no whistle. The game could have been tied.

So officiating played a key role in the game; it's really not debatable. But yes, we still should have won, as I--and virtually every other poster--have stated. And yes, as everyone has said, the team needs to improve in many areas.

But didn't you hear...it doesn't count because he's old!!
