Virtually everyone has commented on the team's failings during the game. That doesn't preclude also mentioning the poor officiating. I don't think anyone has blamed the officiating exclusively or even primarily.
But we lost by three points and USU was awarded 13 more free throws than OU. Groves' phantom fourth foul put him on the bench at a key point late in the game, and Goldwire was fouled on the drive that drew us within one point late in the game, but no whistle. The game could have been tied.
So officiating played a key role in the game; it's really not debatable. But yes, we still should have won, as I--and virtually every other poster--have stated. And yes, as everyone has said, the team needs to improve in many areas.
Here we go again. This is so tiresome.
They were the aggressors. The aggressors typically shoot more free throws. We settled for bad jump-shots. A free-throw disparity is not necessarily a sign of bad officiating. Were there some marginal calls? Yes, I have yet to see a basketball game that was officiated perfectly. But there were bad calls both ways. Our biggest problems were that we let a guy from <checks notes> Utah State go all Charles Barkley on us and we also shot a ton of ill-advised shots. We got outrebounded and seemingly outcoached. Those are the reasons we lost the game.
