Not a surprise. It'll be interesting to see if KU lands someone big to fill that spot.

I don't blame him. The kid can flat out play. Unfortunately for the rest of the Big 12, KU has a way of reloading every season.

Losing all these one and done guys has hurt them quite a bit. They seem to never be able to get their elite prospects to come back these days. I think Oubre would have had a dominant season next year, and would have positioned them to be runaway favorites for the Big XII title.

I'm not surprised. If Oubre was rated as #13-20, that gives him guaranteed money and he can work on his game for a couple of years while he matures.

I remember when DeAndre Jordan declared for the NBA after his freshman year at A&M where he only averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds. He was the 5th pick in the 2nd round…. 35th overall. People were saying he made a big mistake. He needed to stay longer to work on his game. He was the Clippers starting center by January, and less than 3 years later signed a $43MM 4-year contract extension ….. much sooner than a 1st round pick could sign an extension. He would of been a senior at A&M at the time he was a 3-year starter and multi-millionaire. He's now the top rebounder in the NBA, and his contract is expiring again at age 26, so he will get another nice bump in pay.

Andrew Wiggins this year has surprised me…. and he reminds me of Oubre. I wasn't blown away by him last year, but he is the runaway leader for NBA rookie of the year averaging over 16 ppg. Oubre could turn out to be really good really quickly.

Deandre Jordan is a good story but he is by far the exception not the rule when it comes to guys coming out way too early for their own good especially when they aren't given any guaranteed money with a 1st round deal. You can probably count on 1 hand the guys who have had the success that he's had in the NBA while dropping to round 2 in the past 10 years.

He's a guy that the Clippers patiently waited for and has finally really paid off these past 2 years, they were forced into signing him to that offer sheet when the Warriors gave him that offer as a restricted FA.

The reason is because the pros can spot talent, and most of the time if a kid falls to the second round its because he can't play. The NBA will give you a shot if you can play.

I will say this, if the Thunder miss the playoffs, I would LOVE for them to get Oubre at the end of the lottery. I think he's the kind of player they wanted Roberson to be.

I've seen Oubre play a lot, going back to high school, and he's really good...when he plays. When he doesn't, he's useless. A lot of guys will still be strong defensively when their shot isn't falling but not Oubre. He'll pout and take himself out of the game (not that the NBA cares a whole lot about defense anyway.)

He's got a lot of potential and I'm not surprised he's leaving, but he also looks a lot like James Young last year. He's a good shooter who basically only goes to his left hand. He doesn't defend and has trouble finishing through people. If he gets calls, he'll make his free throws. If he doesn't, he shuts down.

He may be good; he may be a complete flop. How valuable was he to Kansas this year? Not very. In their loss to Wichita St., he disappeared and many games he spent more time collecting splinters than buckets. KU will replace him with someone at least as valuable to their team next year as Oubre was this year, without a lot of difficulty.

Wiggins is miles better than Oubre. It's not close. Maybe 1 day Oubre can aspire to be what Wiggins is but that's Oubre's best case scenario (and maybe Wiggins's worst case scenario).
