Keep your eye out for the "new offense" and report in detail.

I did. It was ran just like a regular practice with basic drills with a few 1 on 1 and 3 on 3 drills. They didn't preview any of the new offense as mentioned in several of the player interviews. Maddie looked really good, and she was very aggressive. I noticed her shot mechanics were a bit different than it has been in previous years, and she shot very well. Nancy was a big body, but you could tell she is still trying to learn where to be on the floor and the college pace. Mulkey has a really nice 15 foot shot. Chelsea Dungee was very impressive and aggressive. Dungee also has a very nice shot, and I think she will be a VERY effective scorer at OU. Morgan Rich did not participate in the practice. She only passed balls to the other players. Not sure if she has a minor injury or what, but she was dressed in practice gear.

Got there for part of it. More motion than last year, but still spot up 3 point shooters. They had obviously been practicing some give and go, inside to post and passer cuts inside with options for return pass or to 3 point shooter. Just saw a little, but everyone looked healthy, and in much better shape than last year. Upper classmen mostly dominated 3 on 3 and a short 5 on 5 half court. Our centers looked good. Mulkey smooth jump shot, accurate, but on the move she looked like she was not used to the contact allowed in college.
Actually saw some fade away, or step back jump shots. T'Ona's looked good, Maddie also shot some. Peyton and Gioya shot well. Vivi and Ijeoma Odimgbe both looked improved from last year. ViVi still a force inside, and it looked like she had more mobility. Nancy M pushed around by the other centers, but has good hands to catch with or rebound. And she is tall
I thought Morgan participated fully early, and then backed out with 3x3 and 5x5-. I assumed that was since she isn't eligible until second semester. I could not see any problem with her moving.

Thank-you, gentlemen. I appreciate the reports. It sounds like what I had anticipated with respect to Nancy. She may need to learn to push some people around. But, at 6-9, she is exposed, and she may get foul calls if she does. How EJ does may be important this year. I have absolute faith in Vivi's development.

In her practice report, Maddie mentioned that "Gigi" was doing well. I assume that is Gioya? If Maddie, Chelsea, and Nancy can shoot effectively this year, it will make a huge difference. We had times last year when we just couldn't score.

I went and I thought Maddie and Vivi were the top 2 on the court overall. They both seemed to be leaders on the court by their play not necessarily vocally. Maddie was probably as quick as I've seen her, shot well and hustled all the time. Vivi was Vivi. Making plays on offense AND defense and playing hard. Vivi should ave a double double this year. I'd guess 13-15 pts and 10-11 rebs per game. If she's consistent, averages should be on high side.

Gioya looked quicker and in better shape than last year and she should since she was injured. Gabbi looked quicker than last year. Peyton looked good as well.

Neither of the freshmen looked like freshmen to me. They didn't back down from anyone. Nancy is a really good shooter and has range. She's also faster up and down the court than you would think. She will be a good shot blocker and make people alter shots. She is more polished as a freshman than I expected. Biggest weakness of course, is her bulk. I don't know if she'll ever be much more bulky than she is now but she has a lot of tools, especially with her shooting range. I saw her hit a 3 pointer in a drill. Chelsea was impressive too. She has a lot of good moves in driving to the basket and also hit some shots with range. Good with anticipation on defense as well.

Gileysa looked really improved. Looked quicker than last year, and she should, being another year away from injury. She just seems to be able to anticipate well on defense and makes good passes on offense. She also shot pretty well too.

Everyone really looked better, although I was hoping T'Ona and LaNesia would be shooting better, but at this point they weren't.

This extra practice and trip to Spain should really benefit this team. Looking forward to seeing them play this year.

Sounds good to me.

Wow. In that photo on soonersports.com, Gioya looked much more slim and trim than she's ever been since arriving at OU. Gioya's already a great athlete, but any weight loss could possibly help her be even better.

With the improved shape and quickness of several players, maybe our D will improve this year.

Our defense was mixed last year. If we hit our first couple of shots, our defense seemed to be a lot better than if we missed. There was a connection between our concern for shooting and our focus on defense. If Kay Kay hit two layups to begin the game, we usually won. If Maddie hit ten points in the first quarter, we won every time. Somehow, our defensive focus depended on having some success on offense. Since that makes no sense, I think we may correct it.

Maddie could be a terror on defense. There were games in which she just took over: steals, blocks, altered passes, altered shots, tipped passes that others caught. T'Ona did a little of that. I strongly suspect that Nancy will be a problem on defense. Teams just don't seem to shoot well when she is on the court. Mostly, I think Nancy will give Vivi some experience at something that Vivi and Kay Kay had difficulty with----going against taller posts. Vivi was effective against Texas with Boyette. But, she wasn't against Baylor. She had trouble with Brown. Nancy will give her practice time against someone very tall. She'll be forced to learn how to handle tall.

With her injury last year, she didn't even play basketball for months so it was extremely difficult to come in after that period of time and get in basketball shape. She was better by the end of the season but not near the Gioya of old. She looked very fit yesterday.
