Last year the players in those spots (bench/support players) were:

A - Nowhere near that athletic
B - Not able to perform like that

I referenced this play yesterday, although buried in another thread. I might go even further than you -- most of our starting bigs would not have been able to complete that play in recent years, either because they would have dropped/fumbled the pass, or just not been quick enough to finish before the defense could react. That play immediately got me excited.
