In a 10-point loss to top-10 Texas earlier in the week, freshman guard Shaina Pellington barely saw the court in the first half before scoring 16 points to lead her team in the second.

Saturday, she was on the court from the beginning and that turned out to be a good thing.

Wellington finished with 23 points, tying a careerhigh, to lead Oklahoma to a 74-69 victory inside Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum.

She made 9 of 14 shots. 5 of 6 free throws — after making 2 of 10 against Texas — and even bettered her second half against the Longhorns, scoring 17 over the final 20 minutes against the Cyclones.

It led to a much needed victory as OU pulled to 6-7 on the season and 1-1 against Big 12 competition. Iowa State fell to 7-6 and 1-1.

The Sooners are back on the court Thursday against TCU at Lloyd Noble Center.

OU was in good shape against the Cyclones for almost the entirety of the game, leading for more than 36 minutes.

Iowa State’s biggest lead was four points in the second minute and OU’s was 11 with 9:48 remaining.

The Cyclones made it a 3-point game when Madison Wise hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining. However, fouled two seconds after that, OU’s Maddie Manning hit two free throws to put the game away.

Gabby Ortiz played every minute and added 13 points on 4 of 5 shooting for OU. LaNesia Williams came off the bench to add 12 points. Though Manning made just 1 of 8 shots, 9 of 10 free-throw shooting got her to 12 points, too.
Bridget Carleton led Iowa State with 21 points, though it came on 5 of 15 shooting and 11 of 13 foul shooting.

Wise added 15 and Adriana Camber 12.

OU only took 48 shots, but made 24 of them. The Sooners hit 4 of 14 from 3-point range and 22 of 30 from the free-throw line.

Iowa State shot 40 percent (24 of 60), yet 28 of those attempts were from 3-point land and only seven found their mark.

I'd play pellington and llanusa and simpson as much as possible. This season is going nowhere, they might as well get as much seasoning as possible looking to next year.
On a darker note- is Morgan Rich going to threaten the current record holder, which would be either Maddie or Whitney for most games on the bench in street clothes? Really a shame she got hurt, hope she can continue her career next year would like to see what she can do.
