Has anyone taken a good look at the Big-12 all conference team? It conflicts in a major way with the view of some on our board. Why?

We keep hearing that Texas is producing the top talent in the nation. Yet - even though the conference is loaded with players from Texas high schools - very few produced well enough to be named to all conference this year.

First Team? Only 2 out of 10 were from Texas High Schools.

All Freshman team? Only 1 out of 5 was from a Texas High School.

All Defensive team? Not a single one from a Texas High School.

Individual Awards? Neither the POY or defensive POY (2 way tie) was from a Texas High School.

In fact kids with a Texas background got shut out except for the newcomer award.

That suggest all the talk about who should be recruited and who should not is not much more than chasing fools gold.

Oh, I know. "Yes, but just wait till next year".

Folks, recruiting is complicated. Don't put too much stock in the recruiting rankings.

I find it interesting that in the past couple of years, something like a third of the top fifteen prospects in the nation seem to come from within 90 miles of DFW. It continues into next year. I just haven't seen that much from DFW in the All-American ranks or in the pros. UConn has the one guard from Glen Heights. Any other superstars?

Anyone who doesn't think Cox and Holmes can play don't know what they are talking about.

I never suggested they were not qualified to play D-1 WBB. In fact I would be surprised if both don't eventually start at their respective teams - who knows - maybe even next year.

It is obviously possible one or both could during their careers make conference POY - as could many, many others.

OU just lost in a virtual home game to a team with vastly more talent.
Recruiting rankings in terms of the top twenty players in the nation are usually dead on accrurate women's hoops.

There are no Buddy Hield's in the women's game. There are no Cinderella's in the Women's game.
Teams with athletic, fluid players rule.

The best teams have the highest recruited players. It's not complicated, but really simple.

And if you were going to do an analysis of Texas HS talent you'd actually need to a comparison
across all the all conference team. Top Texas talent isn't staying home either and no one but Texas/Baylor is signing it.

Just curious, if you do not believe in the recruiting rankings then what is the reason a team wins or doesn't? And my opinion on the issue is complex and not clearly defined, so not putting one out there.

Also, been meaning to post this question so will just ask here: In the past, didn't we have Big 12 Conference players AND Big 12 Conference Tournament players? I looked for the tournament players this year and did not find, but maybe they stopped this practice or never did it.

I've noticed over the years that UCONN, Tenn, ND, and Stanford signed the most highly ranked players and they often competed in final fours. S. Car, Baylor, and Maryland are catching up and they too are signing highly ranked players. Stanford has fallen a bit as they have struggled signing as many top players. I have not seen a team climb into the top 5 of the country without some highly ranked players. Even when we had some highly ranked players we were really good. Atlanta is right, we all can see a distinct correlation between teams that sign the highest ranked players and the teams that go to final fours and compete for national championships. Sign just one top ten player every year and you will have a very good team. Sign two or more and no one wants to play you.
