Per Guerin Emig/Tulsa World:

Calvin Newell, Blair's backup at the point a year ago, will start on the wing in place of Steven Pledger, who will serve a one-game suspension for violating a class attendance policy.

Good grief! Why would a player violate a basic rule for participation this close to the start of the season? Not very smart on Pledger's part!

He better hope Calvin doesnt score 20 or he might not get it back.

thankfully he is only missing a easy victory for OU

Kruger shows who's the boss. That's the way to impress on this team that he's not going to put up with "stuff" this year

This is actually good news. The alternative (when Pledger was not listed as a key reserve or starter) was that Pledger was beat out by Newell and revolted/quit the team or something.

So he skipped a class or two & Lon is enforcing a rule. No biggie. If we are to have a good season we need both Calvin & Steve to play and play well!

The tweet doesn't specify when this happened just that he is suspended for a violation of the attendance policy. For all we know it could have happened two months ago. Although I would agree not a very smart move no matter the timing.

It is nice to see an adult is once again running the OU basketball team. If they kids can't make it on time to practice, show up for class or make study hall they shouldn't play. If they can't play hard (especially on the defensive end), they also shouldn't play. I think Kruger will fix a lot of things on this team.

Does Lon listen to Jay-Z?

This is the definition of a non-issue. Same thing as KU suspending two of their guys for their exhibitions. Who cares. As someone else said, this is better than him losing the starting spot because he wasn't playing well.

best to suspend em and make em attend class now before that whole "grad rate or no postseason" rule kicks in

Actually this is a really good thing. Lon Kruger runs this team and he is making it very clear by suspending one of his most experienced players for the opening exhibition game. Obviously, it has little if any impact on the team for the season because the game does not count; however, it establishes a precedent. Don't break the rules. I suspect if you don't play defense in the manner you have been drilled in practice, you will find yourself sitting on the bench in favor or perhaps a less talented player that does things Coach Kruger's way. I look forward to watching Coach Kruger break these individuals down and build a team.

We get to see what some of the younger guys can do anyway. Hopefully Newell can show the progress he has made since last year.

Yep, this is a good sign that Lon is going to be running the team and not the players.

When is Pledger going to mature and get past the yearly suspensions?

yeah, cuz capel never suspended any players from games and look how those teams turned out....

I've been told that we can expect 2 players to be suspended for a larger portion of the first part of the season... Maybe the whole first semester...
