Gave the Sooners some quality minutes tonight.

But, I’ve been meaning to start a thread about him recently because I’ve enjoyed watching him celebrate on the bench even when he hasn’t been playing. Safe to assume he is really enjoying himself.

he seems to have a good attitude and the other kids like him. I like him.

Apparently Kruger said after the game that he's going to get more minutes. He played fairly well tonight but certainly needs to learn to be stronger with the ball. That will come with some PT.

He gave us good minutes. But when he came in ahead of McNeace, I was afraid McNeace wasn't going to be able to play at all!

I think thats a good move.

considering his lack of hops, i was surprised at how well polla was able to use his body to compete for rebounds against their length. and had a couple vicious block-outs.

He’s not good enough right now that’s clear. Hope he can improve.

sorry but I think Polla does pretty darn good. you can't coach big.

He played pretty well considering. Hard to fault him for not being stronger with the ball when that’s not exactly a skill of the two guys in front of him. He grabbed a bunch of rebounds in limited minutes. His lack of quickness in defending the pick and roll is an issue that got exploited though. That’s something they’ll have to find a way to mask for him to ever consistently give quality minutes in Big 12 play.

He gave us quality minutes. 6 rebounds in four minutes. He will get better at finishing around the rim. We need his strength occasionally as Lattin, McNeace and Manek aren't very strong.

Agreed...there are certain teams in league play he can help with. He is very strong around the basket as far as positioning. Only thing that worries me is he's not quick on the pick and roll help D. But his overall size and strength can be an asset as he gets PT.

Ok, then can we fault him for not jumping out of the gym and blocking a bunch of shots?

His game is going to be much different from Lattin's and McNeace's and a guy who's 270 pounds and very strong shouldn't be getting the ball stripped by guards. As I said, I'm sure he'll improve and that comes from a lack of game time but I think it's fair to expect different players to be able to do different things on the court.

From comments made in this thread, it appears that many (most?) of you think of Polla as the prototypical slow, plodding big man. But that's really not what I see when I watch his movements on the court.

I think he moves pretty well for a guy who's 6-11 and appears to be every bit of 270 pounds. Does he possess point guard quickness? Of course not; but slow footed and plodding are not words I'd use to describe Polla.

I agree he needs to get stronger with the ball, and I believe he will if/when he gets more playing time.
