Possible transfers

lol, how many 23 year old, 5th year senior types actually significantly improve their 3 point shooting after moving on to pro ball?

Blake Griffin certainly has done so (though he was not a fifth year senior, his improvement came well after the five-year mark).

He's shown he can shoot. Better off the catch than off the dribble.

He's an elite pick and roll guy, elite finisher, strong ball handler. Great court vision, exceptional free throw shooter, good size, strong rebounder, tough, and size and anticipation means he can defend well enough.

Goran Dragic, Cam Payne, Dejounte Murray ... all good comparisons.

Not saying he'll be as successful as these guys, but he's got similar skill set entering the league (and better size).

I mean, it may go up a little just due to the fact that some shots have to go in, but I don't see it. Don't see him sticking in the NBA either. He MIGHT get lucky and get to hang on at the end of a bench, or in the G League for a few years, but no way he ever contributes meaningfully to an NBA team.

The vast majority of NBA players are far better shooters than they were in college. There are all kinds of guys at every position who drastically improve their shooting throughout their career.

To add, FT% is the number one thing scouts look at to see if a person's shooting will translate to the NBA. Austin will be fine.

In a 10 year study of NBA 2nd round picks, the following was discovered:

26.1% never made the NBA
47.9% played less than 3 years
2.4% became All-Stars or made All-NBA teams
16.7% played at least 3 years

The key number being that 74% of guys like Austin Reaves (college stars, older college players who typically go in the 2nd round) either don't make it, or play less than 3 years, which is exactly what WTSooner said.

Hopefully he does well though.

Thanks, BOB! Seeing you and a few other regulars from the past around lately is a nice reminder of the good ole’ days on this board! Welcome back!

Good stuff, BoB. Good to see you back!

Thanks guys, I went thru a divorce a few years back so just now really getting on my feet as a full time single father and everything else life throws at you post-divorce. It's good to be back and I'm really happy with the new hire, though I'm very appreciative of Lon for getting us back on solid footing. I appreciate the kind words. BOOMER!!

Even bad NBA shooters are actually really good, for some it just doesn't translate to NBA games for whatever reason. I played with Desmond Mason a couple years after he retired when he was working out at the Chesapeake Energy company employee gym and you woulda thought he was Ray Allen. Granted the 3pt line was collegiate distance.

Patrick Tape

Started at Columbia, then played at Duke for one season. Entered the portal a couple of days ago.

6’11” sophomore Joel Soriano, who averaged 10.4 points & 9.2 rebounds for #Fordham University, has entered the transfer portal. He played for @PSACardinals , @step_basketball & St. Thomas More (CT). Will be a HM recruit

Sounds like OU is making Soriano a priority.

6’11”
10 points 9 Rebounds per game he’d have been out best Big last year!
Reel him in coach!!

Watching his highlights he definitely knows how to post up, throw a shoulder and shoot the hook.

Maybe he surprises, but not going to get my hopes up that Soriano comes in and makes an immediate impact. 10ppg & 9rpg on a 2-12 Fordham team. Also bad FT%, turnover ratio, foul trouble, & not a great shot blocker.

I’d rather have Tape I think. He had better numbers at Columbia.

What year is Soriano?

I agree. He finished his sophomore year, so still time to develop.

Honestly, lol, we probably could use them both.

Of the names mentioned, my impressions are:

Mason -- He committed and looks pretty good to me

Koleck --I would take him

I like all three, Cork, Tape and Soriano. My first choice would be Tape, then Cork, and then Soriano.

I like Krutwag (s) better than all three of the just mentioned bigs.

Haven't seen Bishop, the Creighton kid, but if he is only 6 foot 7 in., then I would hope we would sign someone a little taller that would play.

Of all the kids mentioned in this thread, I like the Freeman kid at Indian hills the most. Not sure why, he just looks like a player to me.

If we can get a decent center in the portal, I think we will be at least decent next year. I like Hill at the 4, and just about any combination at the three outside positions. I think Cortes starts at the point. Although, the little video of Mason looks pretty good. Cortes is better than what most on here assume. He is really good and a very natural point.

A couple of bigs and we wont be hideous next year.
