I happened to be in Edmond this weekend to watch 2 grandsons play football. It so happens that one of them also plays on a nationally ranked AAU basketball team with the son of an OU basketball staff member..... not one of the coaches. The basketball team had a practice on Sunday afternoon and I asked him when OU practices start. He said next Sunday and went on to say the next time I was in town to come out to a practice saying they were going to practice pretty much every week day afternoon from 2:00-4:00..... if anyone is interested in attending a practice.

We hope this note finds your academic year off to a fantastic start. We have been in back on campus for about a month. This summer was slightly different than most. In addition to having our guys on campus for summer school, summer workouts and time in the weight room, this was our year to take a foreign tour. The first part of August we played 4 games over 9 days in New Zealand and Australia. These trips are such a great experience both on and off the court. It’s a great opportunity for the new guys to bond with the returners and just get to know each other away from the court. That experience should pay dividends early on.

Our practice begins October 2, only one week away. Practice is always open and you are welcome to bring your staff and/or players, anytime. We encourage you to contact the office in advance so we can be aware you are planning to attend. We are required to have a day off each week. We will let you know our location as well, either the practice gym or Lloyd Noble. We will provide you with a copy of the practice plan and answer any questions you might have. After practice, you are welcome to ask any member of our staff about the practice plan, and we are open to any ideas you might have as well! We are excited about this group and look forward to seeing you at a practice soon.

Again, if there is anything we can do to help you, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are all trying to support basketball in this part of the country… at EVERY level.

Coach Lon Kruger

I sure do dig coach Lon. What a great hire he has been! I wasn't totally onboard with him as the choice initially - but I have gladly eaten crow ever since.

Lon Kruger is a class act! So glad he's our coach.

Best line of the email was, we want your input on practice......wow, a D1 coach with a crazy good resume still wanting to learn. LK's humility may be his best asset. Joe C deserves huge props for hiring a man of this quality.

I just learned I'll be in OKC this weekend -- anyone know for sure what time practice is on Sunday?

Well, I'm very disappointed. I just learned from Ben Coldagelli in the hoops communications office that there is a one-hour practice tomorrow afternoon (I get in tomorrow evening) and then nothing until a full practice at 2pm on Monday (my flight is at 3:30 on Monday).

Dang it! I was really getting excited about attending a practice and I'm JUST missing it on both ends of my trip.
