Got home from watching a practice and touring the campus last night. I would definitely recommend going to watch a practice if you get the chance. Everybody in the basketball office was so nice, one guy even walked us to the practice court. Lon come over and introduced himself to us and talked to us for a few minutes.
We arrived about 30 minutes before practice started and Buford and James were already in the gym shooting threes and making most of them. Buddy walk past my wife and kids in the hallway and stopped and said hello. They didn't practice to long about an hour, they were leaving for Manhattan right after. Before practice Lon was in the locker room with the players, the other coaches were working one on one with Freeman and I'm guessing Grandstaff he was wearing #45. Freeman is a lot bigger than I thought he would be. I was expecting a tall skinny kid, but that was not the case. Coach Hill was working on low post moves with him during that time. I think he will be a great player for us.
Practice wise there is not to much to say that is not already known. The starting five is great. The biggest take I got was the older guys took the time to help out the younger guys. At one point the starters were watching from the baseline, after the play was over, Ryan walked over to half court to explain to James what he should have been and James listened. You can really tell how close of a team they are. One other thing I learned was just how big these kids really are, you just have no idea until you see them up close.
After practice the players came over and thanked us for coming, even got a bro hug from McNeace. Sorry this is so long but me and my family had a great experience and I had to share it. It's not often you get to watch the #1 team in the nation up close and personal.
