Ranked 24th!

BUT BUT our defense gives up too much... and we score 90 a game. Why are we giving up 78?

Kidding. Gotta keep improving each game. there will be ups and downs.

In coaches poll.

Still unranked in AP.

We're 26th in AP, just barely on the outside looking in.

If we could somehow surprise Wichita State (I'm not betting the rent, but you never know), we'd be solidly positioned in both polls.

means nothing at this point

[insert facepalm here]

I'd rather be ranked than not ranked. It's good for the program to be in the top 25 as many weeks as it can manage -- every week, if possible.

If you can't enjoy small victories and accomplishments over the course of a season, I truly pity you.

Im thinking that we get them imo

Well said!

You and that "Debbie Downer" attitude. I think it means something to the psyche of a young team. I remember the '83-'84 season. We weren't ranked in the top 20 (was no top 25 back then)...then had a nationally televised road game at Syracuse which I attended (got to see Wayman play!). We beat them, got into the top 20 and stayed there a long, long time. It was pretty much 1991 before we were out of the polls again for more than a week or two. More importantly, that '84 team getting ranked after that game seemed to make a difference with the three starting freshmen. I really think these things mean something to the players.

By that logic it would also mean nothing at the end of the year. If we were 1-7 would it mean something at this point?

Team should be focused on getting better as the season progresses. If by chance we lose at Wichita State then chances are we lose our top 25 ranking since we're on the fringe to begin with, but that doesn't necessarily translate to the team is not progressing.

It's not either/or. Reaching the top 25 is a reward for their hard work. Falling out of it, if we lose to WSU, should motivate them to work that much harder to climb back into the top 25. Yes, they should be focused on getting better, but anyone working towards a goal will respond to rewards and recognition along the way; it shows your work is paying off.

I would add that another benefit of being ranked is increased fan interest. The Sooners being a Top 25 team can only help in attracting the casual fan to the LNC.

I think WSU is going to be a fun game. I think they are crisper than us right now but we can certainly beat them. What pressure there is is on them this year.

Yes....with the Thunder struggling, I am hoping that the "flavor of the winter" to the casual basketball fan will gradually become Trae.....as more and more people notice what he is doing game in and game out. I'm coming up for the game on the 22nd and really looking forward to it.

As for Saturday I don't expect to win, but I'm hoping we put up a nice showing at Wichita and maybe....just maybe we can hang in the top 25.

I'll cheer loud for the guys on Saturday. If we win, you can thank me for making some noise in the sea of yellow and black. :D

Also, being ranked absolutely matters. Especially after how last year went.

Scheduling note, FWIW; in his presser yesterday, Marshall said that WSU had "re-upped" with Oklahoma for at least 2 more years.

I am there as well...

Just depends on how well we shoot the 3..I know DUH!

I think our bigs can run more. They didn't look like world killers vs osu, so either osu is better than thought or wsu had a bad day (could be).

Definitely would like our chances in Norman or OKC better...but it's still 10 ft rim.

Carroll is likely their best player (OSU) and he scored 1 bucket in 20 minutes of play.
