Reaves a Sooner

I like that he has a year to continue his development - he ll need that year off to work on his body. He ll be a solid player for us.

Those eight ppg would put him in third place among our returning scorers if he could play this season.

Oh, and he shot 45% from 3-point range in his two seasons with Wichita State.

Exactly!

Last Season
Reaves 8p/3r/2a shooting 45% FG, 43% 3pt, 83% FT, 16 steals, 8 blks
McGusty 8p/2r/0a shooting 42% FG, 33% 3pt, 75% FT, 11 steals, 1 blks

Reaves>McGusty

Yes, congrats! A kid that two years ago wasn't ranked by any recruiting service, and who has averaged 4 and 8 ppg the last two years, is now being counted on to turn our program around in a year when we turn over a large part of our roster.

If we were getting him to fill a hole on the bench, I'd like it a lot more. If he starts for two years at OU, I think OU fans are going to be disappointed in both the player and the team over that time. Hope I'm wrong.

I feel the same way about Calixte... people need to be very realistic with this. He played for one of the worst teams in the country. His teams have won about 20 games in his entire 4 year career at Maine.

  • He scored 5 points against Texas Tech and they lost by 40
  • He scored 12 points on 30% shooting against Boston College and they lost by 20
  • He had a nice 17 point game against Georgetown in a game they lost by 21
  • He had an 11 point game on 4-15 shooting against the best team in their league, Vermont.

I really hope he comes in here and is the answer at point guard, because there were lots of good options out there the staff couldnt get done. I know its great that he has D1 experience but we need to be very realistic about guys like Reaves and Calixte.

We need to be realistic about every player that comes in. You never know what you're getting, and even when a player blows up, as Trae did, things can obviously still go awry.

Absolutely no one is getting so excited about any of these players that we need to be talked down. I just wish Reaves were a juco transfer so we could watch you bounce off the walls with gleeful anticipation.

As for your incessant recital of Calixte's "failures" at Maine, you're aware there were four other players on the court with him, yes? We had perhaps the best PG in our history this year, but even he could only rarely will us to victory in conference play. It takes five players (not even counting the bench guys) to field a quality team. Honestly, that's so freaking basic, I can't believe I have to say it.

No one -- and I mean not a single poster -- has claimed Calixte is some kind of magic fix for what ails us, but given that we had, following TY and Shepherd's departures, not a single PG on the roster, a good, solid player with four years' D1 experience is well worth bringing on board. If he falls short, so be it -- we won't be any worse off with him than without him.

Good get. Year off will be good for him to improve his all around game, already a great shooter.

Mcgusty's assists lololol. He had like 3 all year

Basketball coaches all too often get caught up in size and athletic ability.. give me a kid who can stroke every day of the week

Amazing that we managed to get a kid who was being recruited by a lot of great programs. Must have just gotten lucky since we all "know" our staff is negligent when it comes to recruiting! :facepalm

Agreed. This k8d is going to be a solid contributor and a leader on this team when it gets very young after next season. I'm sure glad to see our coaches haven't actually been dozing away while everybody else was out recruiting.

Me too. The athletic, high flyers aren’t the guys who make us pay when we fail to play defense, it’s the spot up three point shooters like Reaves. Too bad he has to sit out next season.

Eh we got 4 good guards that are ready to play, & it will allow Bienemy to ease in being the 5th guard while getting valuable experience he probably wouldn't get if Reaves were eligible. Would be nice to have him this year but honestly better to have him the 2 years after.

Marshall had a couple of interesting things to say about him on the 6 PM newscast:

1. It caught him off guard. He tried to have a convo w/ AR about it, but it didn't take long to realize that there was no talking him out of leaving.

2. AR is the only player he's had in his 20 years as a head coach who's left that he didn't have to tell him that he needs to do things our way or leave, or B) be better or leave.

I saw that and it was classic, arrogant Gregg. I have a hard time believing he'd truly never lost a kid he didn't want to see go. Either way, this type of comment is why I can't stand him. Very few coaches would come out and brag about how they have run players off and forced them to transfer. It happens everywhere, but most coaches are classy enough to keep their mouth shut. But in this case, his loss is our gain!

parting shots are juvenile for a coach. both parties should ALWAYS stick to their trite sayings.

Man, there are some posters that insist on proving their own stupidity in every single thread.

Reaves is a great get. He's exactly the type of player you need in modern college basketball.

I talked to Gregg Marshall Monday and he definitely did not want to lose Reaves! He was shocked and disappointed when he decided to leave WSU. We got a good kid and player.

Reaves will be more effective than mcgusty. Its an upgrade.
I'm not sold on the other two transfers, but I'm sold on REaves
