Scrimmage

I believe there was in Vegas. A friend of mine ran into the OU basketball team at the OKC airport yesterday.

Is this the only scheduled scrimmage? If not when is the 2nd and with whom?

This is it. You get a total of two scrimmages and exhibitions, and we play an exhibition on 11/1 against Pitt State.

Thanks for the link. Looking at the list of Scrimmages, it seems OU has the weakest opponent of all Big-12 teams. Well, Kansas actually has the easiest scrimmage opponent,

BIG 12 SCRIMMAGES
Baylor – 10/19 at Vanderbilt; 10/26 vs. SMU
Iowa State – 10/21 vs. Nebraska; 10/28 vs. Wisconsin in Platteville, Wisc.
Kansas – None
Kansas State – 10/27 vs. Oregon in Denver
Oklahoma – 10/20 vs. Southern Utah in Las Vegas
Oklahoma State – 10/21 at Wichita State
TCU – 10/13 vs. Mississippi State at Louisiana Tech.; 10/21 vs. North Texas
Texas – 10/27 vs. LSU in Houston; 11/1 vs. Texas A&M
Texas Tech – 10/27 vs. Houston in Fort Worth; 11/1 vs. UTEP
West Virginia – 10-27 vs. Purdue in Columbus; 11-3 vs. PENN STATE

Anybody out there got any info about yesterday’s scrimmage?

Starters were Calixte, James, Doolittle, Manek and McNease.

Jamuni played very well.
James didn't score.
Doolittle did a nice job.
Manek was fair.
Calixte did a nice job running the team.
Reynolds played well better than he has been practicing.
Bienemy didn't score but had several rebounds and assists. He knows how to play. He is likely to be the backup point guard this year.
Polla had a couple of offensive rebounds and putbacks. He is still slow though.
Kur had some blocks but is very raw. He will play this year though.
Rashard played very well. He rebounded and drove the ball to the hole.

This team is different than last year. LK is happy with them. We aren't going to score a bunch but they are defending much better.

We won in the teens. Southern Utah is actually bigger than OU and has a bunch of transfers from higher schools.

Thanks a bunch VBDAD..

Andre Adams (6'9'' 230) - Transfer from Arizona State
Ivan Madunic (6'11'' 225) - Croatian guy
David N'Diaye (7'0'' 215) - Transfer from Illinois State
Dwayne Morgan (6'8'' 220) - Transfer from UNLV

Got to imagine this is a really nice front-court for a team from their conference. Good test for OU's players I assume.

“We aren't going to score a bunch but they are defending much better.”

That’s like music to my ears, vbdad! This team has enough length and athleticism to win a game or two by playing solid defense, something they did not do last year. It’s good to know the players are still committed to the promise you told me about at the end of last season.

Thanks for the scrimmage report!

James not scoring is very problematic

While this maybe 100% true, I actually had the opposite reaction when I first read it.

Wasn't it two years ago (scrimmage against Oregon) that James was one of the leading scorers (if not the top scorer) everyone was hyped and he came out and had a dud season?

I am kind of hoping for the opposite, bad scrimmage, good season

And thanks vbdad, appreciate the notes

Dwayne Morgan was a 5* out of HS and was starting at UNLV. Andre Adams was top 250 out of HS.

They were going against a P5 frontcourt.

Their guards consist of a returning all-conf player, all-conf transfer, boise state transfer, & iowa state transfer. The Iowa State transfer was Jakolby Long from Mustang HS.

Didn't know this going into the scrimmage but seems like SU is going to be pretty good.

Here’s a link to SU’s web site. Looks like a pretty solid group to me. Jakolby Long was on OU’s radar when he was a senior in high school. Isn’t his dad the coach at Mustang?
