Scrimmage

I think in a more structured offense he would get and make more open shots. Calixte hopefully figures out how to set up certain guys as the season goes on.

Thanks for the info, psk2080!

I would think beating Southern Utah by 16 is a fairly strong showing by this OU team, especially with one of our starters and best shooters (James) going scoreless. Nice game by Muni against a front court with some really big dudes.

I like it. James will be fine. Muni is a good one!

Starters were Calixte, James, Doolittle, Manek and McNease.

This team is different than last year. LK is happy with them. We aren't going to score a bunch but they are defending much better.

We won in the teens. Southern Utah is actually bigger than OU and has a bunch of transfers from higher schools.

My opinion is that if those are the starters, and we're already saying we aren't going to score the ball well, it's going to be a LONG season. I simply cannot believe that the D is going to improve THAT much, considering Calixte isn't a defensive player and Doolittle has zero business defending out on the wing. We'll get switched to death by the good teams.

Having multiple guards go scoreless in a scrimmage? smh

I'm thinking .500, WT. I think we're two years away.

Overall. I think the league will have its way with us.

Im with you.. james not scoring a point is very scary. D wont magically become good after last year.. unless literally a miracle occurs

I'm not going to guarantee that we will be great defensively, but I am more optimistic than some of you in that area. Again, look at how much better we were in 2014-15 than the previous season. That team returned four starters from a team that was awful defensively, and they improved a ton. They hadn't magically gotten more athletic, but they and the coaches put a huge emphasis on that end of the court. There is no reason this year's team can't do the same thing, IF they choose to do so. Obviously if they don't make the commitment, nothing will change, but that is simply an attitude issue.

This is going to be a good thread to bump in a few months!

I have little doubt they will be better defensively if for no other reason than osmosis.

Is McNeace going to be good enough that people will actually spell his name correctly?

Think I’ll wait until the end of the non-con portion of our schedule before writing this team off as a failure. A perennial glass-is-half-full guy like me can’t stand the thoughts of approaching a brand new season with very little hope for success and almost none for a post season birth.

Is McNeace going to be good enough that people will actually spell his name correctly?

Good question. One would think that after four years of spelling it wrong, the “McNease” posters would try a little harder to get it right.

Must temper expectations with Muni... I predict 7/7, which is a nice player, but I think a lot of you have much higher expectations.

So you're expecting him, as a full-time starter for the first time, to add just two rebounds and zero points to his average from last season?

I think it will be more like 12 and 8. I also think his ceiling is much higher if he (as I have said a number of times) develops a mean streak. Muni is too nice. A shame, too, because I think he has the size and athleticism to play in the league someday.

Not that everyone has to make it to the NBA to be successful. Muni is a fine young man with a good head on his shoulders. He’ll be successful no matter what he decides to do.

I think its likely at least one of the seniors has something of a breakout season. But I agree defense has to be fairly decent for anything positive to come from this season.
