Appreciate it! I sure hope he is available for that exhibition. Dude hasn’t played in 12 months and even if they say it’s nothing to be worried about, I think I’ll go ahead and worry.
Has he been training with the oline perhaps?Appreciate it! I sure hope he is available for that exhibition. Dude hasn’t played in 12 months
Don’t know the injury. Was told “not serious”Care to elaborate?
played like a real game treat it like one.I'm glad it was good on good, but it seems odd not to get more run for guys like Nwankwo and Rogers who you will clearly depend on at times throughout the year. We'll see if Atak is ready, but my guess is he'll end up being 10th guy after Jones is back.
If that was directed at me, take that somewhere else. I've been here as long as this board has been up and have not ever been a negative nancy or a naysayer. I think early season development is critical for young guys -- more important thana scrimmage win -- and stated my opinion.gotta complain about something
Round of 32 or bust! And hoping for a sweet 16I've seen several pre-season top 40's and such and NONE of them have mentioned OU. This team has the potential to be a top 25 team, IF we can remain healthy this year. I also recently saw a "Top 100" college players and NO OU players were even mentioned! Brown and Pack (although on the smallish side) could be one of the most underrated backcourts in the country. BTW, that list of top 100 players had Oweh at # 16! Look, he's a nice player and had a good year last year, but that seems a little high to me. We all know his games here, but had he remained at OU and not transferred and had identical numbers...I promise you he wouldn't be ranked the same. A little bias involved there IMO.
I'm excited about the upside of this team, and beating a top 10 type team...is a very good sign this early.
OU has been treated just fine by the media and pollsters IMHO. There have been multiple seasons where we have vaulted into the top 20, even the top 10, based on early results, even though we haven't shown an ability to sustain that level as the season progresses. And numerous publications this offseason have rated our transfer class as one of the best in the country.I've seen several pre-season top 40's and such and NONE of them have mentioned OU. The National people will learn fast. Easily the most talented group since the Buddy years.I've seen several pre-season top 40's and such and NONE of them have mentioned OU. According to Lusk article this morning... it was a lower-body injury, nothing serious sounding at all, just held him out for precautionary reasons (AKA because it was a scrimmage)Don’t know the injury. Was told “not serious”
But he was not available to play last night
I agree on that historically, my comment was on this specific team. We had a top 10 portal class, but seem to be off the radar as far as pre-season rankings (which I get, mean nothing). Where would I put us? I dunno, but I would think we are worthy of a top 40-50 ranking. As far as Oweh, I just don't see him as one of the top 20 players in all of college b-ball. What are there, like 350+ D-1 teams out there? That's like 4500+ players. At #16, that puts him in the top 0.4% of players out there...which I just don't see. Just my opinion. I hope he has an all-american type season and goes on to have a long NBA career...although I'm not sure he is that. At only 6'4", he's going to have to be able to guard NBA guards. He's a very good defender who is physical, but the quickness of NBA SG's is another level. If he was 6'7+, he'd have a better chance of making it as a wing. It will be interesting to see how he progresses this year, and what his future beholds. His shooting % from outside has always been solid, but I wouldn't call him a "shooter" per se, and his release has always been slow to me.OU has been treated just fine by the media and pollsters IMHO. And I disagree on Oweh. When OU has good players, they get plenty of love. Buddy and Fears weren't exactly household names when they started their careers, but once they started playing like stars, they got a lot of attention. TY was obviously on a different level, but ESPN practically designed their college hoops programming around him. Oweh was the best overall player on a really good team last year. If he had stayed at OU, put up those numbers last year, and been the best player on a Sweet 16 team, and then decided to return for his senior year, he definitely would be getting the same attention.
I think a lot of media members have a hard time knowing how to rank teams outside the top 20 or so, especially now, with all the roster turnover. I notice that a lot of people who only have us in the 45 to 50 range also see us as a likely tourney team, which seems inconsistent, since there are only 36 (I think) at large spots. I think that just illustrates that they feel like there are a lot of teams similar to us -- if things go right, we could be really good, but there are also lots of unknowns.I agree on that historically, my comment was on this specific team. It's hard for me to keep up with OU. I can't imagine trying to do that with 300+ teams, even if that is your job. Pre-season polls shouldn't be a thing to take seriously anymore.I think a lot of media members have a hard time knowing how to rank teams outside the top 20 or so, especially now, with all the roster turnover. And I agree with a lot of what you say on Oweh. He is nowhere close to being an NBA level shooter at this point, but his defense and athleticism and physicality are all strong. He definitely still needs to refine his game, which is no doubt what the NBA folks told him in the draft process.
